Liriano for Cabrera

Just for fun, how badly do you want to see Miguel Cabrera in a Twins Uni?  Both players have enormous upside, and should the Twins deal Liriano, they have the benefit of knowing that they've filled their major hole for years to come and still have a wealth of pitchers coming up.  I would think that Liriano alone would be enough to make the Marlins consider the deal, after all, Liriano alone was enough to get Soriano last fall and that was before he was 7-1 and embarrassing hitters at the major league level.  Either way, the Twins are virtually guaranteed a superstar for years to come(barring injury) but IMO its a lot easier for the Twins to fill spots in the rotation using the minors than it is to fill the hot corner.  This is just for fun, but let's see what you all think

Salary issues
You simply cannot disregard salary issues.  For this reason, I wouldn't do it.  I'm not sure if I would anyway, but i sure as heck wouldn't considering Liriano stays cheep for several more years and Cabrera is getting expensive starting now.

Big Trade
Santana for Pujols

Personally...
I wouldn't deal either of them for anyone in baseball, including Pujols.  I just tend to think that dominant pitching wins championships, and in my view those are the best 2 pitchers in the game for at least the next 5 years or so.  That is an ENORMOUS luxury.  Pujols is the best hitter in the game right now, and I think Miggy will pass even him in 2-3 years, but I just don't deal TOP, TOP pitching for TOP, TOP hitting.

You throw Liriano and Santana together in the playoffs and we have a VERY good chance at winning it all.  WHEN (not if, WHEN) we get there, to me we're the favorites for that reason alone.

So no, I don't deal either, for anyone in the game straight up.  They're that good in my view.

I think
I'd give Pujols, because he is such a player, but not for many others.  Santana/Liriano is the type of one-tw punch that can lead an otherwise average team to a championship.

neither
Liriano & Santana both have something that's very, very big in the post-season ... the ability to get outs without anyone having to field a ball (in other words, they strike people out).

Runners don't advance on K's; no one (other than the catcher) has to catch a ball or make a throw; you simply increase the total of outs by 1 without anyone moving.

Keep these guys.

Hummm....
Might we see a Koufax/Drysdale contract negotiation coming up?
