Hunter Makes a Stand

Torii Hunter tells the Twins what it will take to keep him in a Twins uniform.

Says Torii: "I already don't like the Dome, so I'm not going to get used. It's got to be a long-term deal. For me to be here it's got to be five or six years."

Five or six years.  For Hunter.  Says Top Jimmy:

Hunter is making $10.75 million this year. The Twins have an option to keep him for 2007 at $12 million.

The Yankees signed center fielder Johnny Damon for five years at $55 million last offseason, and that might provide a benchmark for Hunter's expectations.

With Mauer, Morneau, Cuddyer, Santana, Liriano and Nathan all expected to make big money over that time, I can't see any way the Twins could possibly agree to that kind of contract.

ya, 5 years is too long...
I could go 4, and wonder if he would actually accept that (despite his comments) but 5 is just too much.  4 for 36 I might consider though.

And I don't think that Damon contract is right.  His contract was 4 years, 52 million.

I think it'll be very tough for Hunter to get a 5 year deal; they just don't happen very often for CF's on the wrong side of 30.

Maybe he should wish in one hand and s**t in the other and see which fills up first.

Dream on
We can't afford to sign Torii to another long term deal, adn it would be intensly stupid.

MAYBE we can afford him in 07', but 'd rather take the prospects.

You are Right
Damon's deal is 4 years, $52 million.  And that's way too much.  I was quoting Top Jimmy there, a dangerous proposition if you want the truth.

ya...
I know it's not your fault.  I read the same article and was thinking; "Don't these guys research anything?"
