Playoff Rotations

Not that it's necessarily time to plan for the playoffs yet or anything, but this came up on the radio this morning.

Listening to Jeff Dubay on KFAN on the drive into work, he fielded a question from a listener about whether or not to start Liriano and Santana back-to-back in a potential playoff series. He opined two things: One, "Playoffs in baseball are so long that you basically have to have a 4-man rotation," and two, "However you set up your rotation, you just gotta make sure that you have one of your lights-out guys [Liriano or the Pres, obviously] in a potential game 7."

Are you friggin' kidding me!? Isn't the idea to win 4 games, rather than plan for what happens after you already lose 3? What the hell's the point in having Santana/Liriano ready for games 6&7 if we lose it in 5?

I just had to vent a little bit. The logic was sooooooo stupid, and I see that kind of thing happen in sports commentary all the time. Irritating.
