Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Bad news on the Liriano front

Liriano just left the game in the 3rd.  He retired the first 6, gave up a hit to Swisher, threw a pitch to Kielty, and the training staff rushed out to take him off the field.  Garza's now pitching.

Fingers crossed as we wait for word how bad this injury is.  He was looking great until they took him off the field.

Not good.

I hope this isn't
leading towards him eventually needing Tommy John surgery.

Wow
This is definitely the sorriest, most bang-up job Gardy has done on the lineup this year.  That's really saying something too.

Liriano is done
Check out the weekend updates on sethspeaks.net, I believe it was Sunday.  Anyways, I did a write up after watching Liriano's rehab start for Rochester.  Anyways, it was a combination of the Rochester coaching staff being too busy winning a playoff game and Liriano witholding information about his health.  He should have never started today, maybe he could've made it in the bullpen for the remainder of the year, but now he's done.

Tommy John surgery?
"The last two pitches I threw, I felt a pop and it really hurts," Liriano said.

Liriano walked slowly toward the dugout and fans gave him a standing ovation -- clearly, they were wondering whether they had seen the last of him this year.

The Twins, leading the AL wild-card race, announced later that he had pain in his left elbow.

He had an MRI exam after the game, and thoughts immediately turned to Tommy John surgery, a ligament-replacement procedure that typically keeps pitchers out for more than a year.

Liriano said he has was waiting to hear from team doctors about the next move.

"I don't even want to think about that," Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson said when asked about Tommy John surgery.
