Rain, Rain Go Away

Ah, the beloved rain delay. Great if you are ahead, Bad if you are losing. Short games can be fun, if called, but not if they pick back up after an hour or so.

I always wondered about rain games. Some part of me wonders what some player stats would look like if they counted those cancelled games -- those that didn't finish the fifth -- in the record books of player stats. I mean, you do show up, hit and pitch -- shouldn't the numbers count, even if the win/loss doesn't?

And those beloved ties. If after the fifth, you play extra innings before or after another scheduled game. Why not just call it a tie, fair and square---make that third little number in the old column. I mean, other sports have ties, right?

But stats...anyone else wonder/think they should count in a players total, even if the game is called? So, someone gets to play in 170 games a year. They did do the work, struck out, reached base, threw the ball hard.

Here's hoping the soaking ends the game. No one needs to play in the rain, although the Twins need to get used to the elements as outdoor baseball will be back in a few years.
