Ah, what an interesting spring for J.D. Durbin. Everyone recognizes that the guy has talent, but everyone wants him in the minor leagues at the moment.
First, the Twins hoped they could designate him for assignment. He ahd a decent '06 before injury -- an injury that kept him from getting a call to the majors.
He reported to spring training -- do or die, it seems. A roster spot could be his if he just got the ball over the plate. Otherwise, the end of his career as a Twin.
Arizona supposedly had the space on their roster and decided to rgab him when waivered. Between J.D.'s cooler modeling, mySpace antics, and longing to be closer to home, he pitched his way quickly off the Arizona roster, who hoped to send him to Tucson.
But not to be. The Red Sox, impressed by scouting reports, grabbed "The Real Deal" -- but it was a fake ploy. They, too, only ahd a desire for Durbin to inhabit a minor league roster. So, once again, J.D. gets to sit in the locker room and wait out the details of waiver world.
The Phillies think they have the edge. They grabbed him, only to designate J.D. for assignment.
Will someone, anyone else grab him. Yankees perhaps, to fill the disabled hole in their pitching rotation.
Of will he end up in Triple A Phillie-land.
Four teams in less than a month. Is that a record? Anyone?
