Tonights's Game Postponed

Game Postponed (Cold Weather)

Star-divide

It was announced this morning that tonight's game against the Chicago White Sox in which the Twins would send out Carlos Silva to pitch against Vazguez has been postponed due to extremely cold weather. There is still no news on whether the Twins will send out Ponson or Silva tomorrow, and there has still been no makeup date announced.

Chills
Someone somewhere has to be looking over the schedule and realizing there are better places to open games. WHy not the Metrodome (Twins in Minneapolis...down to Chicago for the weekend...back to Minneapolis. Makes sense? Wrong!)

Why wasn't this scheduled as an afternoon game, then, or twilight at the least (which may still not have worked).

Hummm...on another note, anyone catch that Bud got paid $14+ million last year, and that the commissioners (major league baseball) office actually has a bigger budget/payroll than the Twins?

Ugh
Somewhere along the line, I've stopped being able to care that executive salaries are disastrously out of control. Go go deregulation, it does nothing but great things for the economy, I promise!

Last Year
I wondered about this last year too.  We started out against Toronto.  Shouldn't you split the teams w/ home series against colder-climate cities I don't know.  Why you wouldn't have all the warm weather teams and MN/Toronto start out w/ a 6-10 game home stand is beyond me.  I think the gains from having the team play right away in front of the home town fans is far outweighed by not freezing your tail off.

It would be...
...kind of lousy as a fan in some cities to know that you would never really be able to attend Opening Day.  I can see leaning more towards the warmer climate cities at the beginning of the season, but making it extreme would probably be bad.

RE:
Is there any last chance Gardy will reconsider now and start Santana and Boof on Saturday and Sunday so we can quickly 2 game sweep these bitches and allow them to continue to spiral out of control?

Friday Night Games
All the other days of the week, the games are scheduled for day games in April.  However, the owners want more people to ba able to attend Fridays because it and Saturday are the best days, attendence-wise.  So Friday games are scheduled at night, even in early April.

I agree with twintown that scheduling this series in Chi-town is stupid.  The series location could have easily been swapped with one of the 2 series at the dome in May, and there would have been far less chance of a postponement.

Plus.......
Even with Easter weekend, I bet the crowds at the Dome would have been tremendous with the proper marketing...30,000+ each night!

Skipping
Someone has said they heard a report KFAN that La Velle said that the Twins will skip either Silva or Ponson.

That
That would be my hope.

We'll get it later, but not so bad for now.

kills our momentum though.

Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

Was fond of saying that about momentum. Then again, he had some pretty horseshit pitching most of the time. Even in the 87 year, it was Viola and Blyleven and hope for the best. The only years he had more than two good starters were 88, 91-92 and 2001. Not surprisingly, those were his best years as a manager. He endured a lot of games when his team was playing well overall, but it didn't matter because his starter gave up five runs in the first inning.

2010
Just think - we can look forward to similar postponements of home games in just three more years!

I think
they should make Bert stay at the stadium all night so he can keep up his inane yammering about the joys of outdoor baseball in April without bothering anyone else. They should give him a good dousing with the gatorade bucket first as well. I swear, if I don't hear another word during a game about the new stadium until the damn thing opens it will still be several thousand words too many.
The only stat that counts is W

According to twinsbaseball.com
(And I take no credit for this info other than passing it along)

Saturday: Carlos Silva vs. Javier Vasquez

Sunday: Johan Santana vs. John Danks

Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday: As reported.  Ponson will get his first Twins start at home against the Yankees.  According to the Twins site, the hometown boys won't have to face Contreras.

I'm happy for a couple reasons:  1.) Santana still has a two-start week for my fantasy team and, 2.) I get to see Sidney's debut in person Monday night.

However, I'm upset for a couple reasons: 1.) Santana won't get a two-start week for my fantasy team next week and 2.) I don't get to see Boof Monday night in person like I was hoping.

When you have to worry about which pitcher you're going to watch instead of whether or not the team can pull out a win, I suppose that's a good sign.
