Assets

This next stretch will give Terry Ryan a good chance to decide if it's time to buy or sell.

My personal opinion is that the tools just are not in place to make it happen this year and we should start looking at 2008 as a major opportunity to make a serious WC run.  Right now there are some assets in the organization that can help us start to fill the holes for next season, DH and 3B being the most blatant.

Torii Hunter- obviously he's the big one.  At this point I'm falling in the group that says it will be irresponsible to resign him.  I love the guy, what he has done and what he brings to the team.  Now however, it's his turn to bring in some younger hitting talent.

Carlos Silva- he's a veteran, he's durable and you know what you're getting.  I know he's Johan's buddy but I really don't want to see him after the end of this year, might as well get something in return now if you can.

Boof Bonser- personally I'd rather trade Baker, but Boof has more value.  Boof is durable, he's a gamer and from start to start you know he has the ability to turn it on, watch out if he really finds himself too.  We should have enough depth to make up the difference.  (Next year Johan, Garza, Liriano, Baker, Slowey or Perkins or Blackburn)

Joe Nathan- this could be the biggest return guy.  I'd rather see him stick around for another year cause I think Neshek is much more valuable as a set-up man and we'll need him to make a run next year.  The biggest difference between him and Pat is that Nathan will keep it in the park and is less susceptible to crushing blows in the 9th (you really have to get to him for a couple hitters to beat him).

Juan Rincon- he still has some value, should have done it before the season started but do it now before it's too late.

Luis Castillo- really don't think anybody will really want him but I suppose he can go on this list.
