No I'm not serious, but with Punto hitting 9th we might as well have the pitchers hit, because that's Punto's equivalent.
Why Punto continues to start EVERY DAY is completely beyond me. Gardy's excuse the other night of starting Punto over Buscher was that Santana was on the mound and he wanted his best defense on the field. Of course this is completely ludicrous since 1) Santana relies more on strikeouts and flyballs than ground outs 2) Santana has lost so much this year because of lack of run support, not poor defense. So wouldn't it make sense to plate your best hitters Mr. Gardenhire? Then there was last night. Of course Casilla is struggling so instead of letting the kid work through it you give him a day of so your favorite player can start again. I really wish I could listen to the opposing teams commentators instead of Dick and Bert so we could hear about how terrible Nick Punto really is. After going 2 for 4 Thursday night, Punto has followed by going 0 for 3 Friday night and then 0 for 2 last night with a sacrifice. Mind you players like Kubel still get benched a day after good games, where Gardenhire rewards Punto's good games with 5 consecutive starts of sucktitude. Further, on the Twins website Kelly reports that Gardenhire has started fining players for mental mistakes. Instead of fining "veterans" like Punto for not getting bunts down or all our other players for being idiots on the basepaths, Gardenhire singles out the rookie to start his genius fining program. It's really too bad that the Tigers and Indians have been so terrible. By seemingly remaining "in the race" by playing .500 ball, Gardenhire still continues to manage like we can make the playoffs. Instead of finding out who can help us for next year's run, this team's "scrappy" veterans continue to get starts and play terrible and frankly I'm sick of watching them play day in and day out. Today the "Mendoza" chants start again in my household.
