Sean Land - Twins minor league pitcher
I am a blogger covering the University of Kansas baseball team at the SB site Rock Chalk Talk. I posted a story today about Twins minor league pitcher Sean Land which might be of interest to those of you who follow prospects and minor leaguers. Land was a 9th round selection of the Twins in 2006.
Here is a link to the full story. My chart did not transfer over to this site but can be seen at the linked story. Just scroll down a bit, Land is the second player highlighted.
I'll copy below the written part of my take on Land. If anyone who can supply more information on his status within the organization I'd be glad for the update. I do try to keep up on the former Hawks as well as I can.
Sean Land
Even though Land did not enjoy great success at the NCAA level he still heard his name called early in his first year of college draft eligibility. At six foot five and 230 lbs Land had the physical makeup professional teams love in left handed pitchers. Land's biggest problem while at Kansas was control. His steady improvement in this area was partially offset by a parallel decline in his strike out rates.
Land broke into professional ball at the Rookie level which indicates the Twins wanted to work with his mechanics. He did fairly well in a half season and opened 2007 at low-A Beloit but an early injury derailed his season. He came back in July to pitch a few innings in the Gulf Coast League, but this has to be seen as a rehab assignment. Nothing about Land's performance in the pros should discourage the Twins from sticking with him, so it looks like his career now hangs on how well he recovers from his injury. If anyone else has more information about Land pleas pass it along.

Thanks Jesse,
For what it is worth, I did not expect him to go in the top twenty rounds. I thought he would be drafted but when he was taken in the 9th round I was happy for him and disappointed for the Jayhawks. Picks from the top-10 rounds almost always sign, and I would have much rather he stayed in Lawrence for another year.
