fan vote for centerfield

now that johan santana has been traded the twins can focus on centerfield and who will start there, i think that it comes down to newly acquired carlos gomez and also new twin jason pridie. Craig monroe might also have a chance for the job and darnell mcdonald thinks he has a chance at the job, maybe in AAA. lol so let your voice be heard with your vote with who you want in CF this year for the twins.

Poll

I said Pridie...
Pridie's supposed to have a good glove, and he hasn't spent a ton of time in AAA, but he's spent a pretty long time in the minors, so we might as well find out about him now.  Gomez had a rough enough time with the Mets last year that I'd like to see him develop in AAA before promoting him to the big club.

Also, ZiPS has Pridie projected to hit better than Gomez next year, though that will likely not be the case in 2009.

Lofton?
Probably ought to throw Lofton on that poll list.

Pridie as well
Gomez would probably benefit from a full season in Rochester.  We're in long-term mode here, there's no reason to rush a prospect who hasn't laerned to hit at higher levels on a consistent basis yet.  He'll only be 22 in '08, he should have some more time to develop.

Suddenly CF...
...is very crowded.  WE have Pridie, Gomez, Span and Roberts...all of whom should be with the Twins or in Rochester.  Will the Twins package one of them (most likely Span) with perhaps a solid pitching prospect for another good prospect at a position of need?

I'd like this...
but does Span add much to the offer?

OK, who voted McDonald?...
and what drugs are you taking?

I like CMath's platoon idea of Pridie/Gomez.  Both could be capable in the leadoff slot and both could slowly develop this year in that scenario.

I said Gomez...
But I'm surprised that there's not an option for Span (don't laugh) as well as a free agent. Span will compete for the job (whether some like it or not) and the Twins may sign a free agent as well.

Too bad we didn't go out and sign Andruw Jones to a big deal. Imagine our offense with Jones in the mix. If we got Jones, I would've been fine with the Twins getting Martinez, Guerra and Humber (if that was a possible deal)... Oh well, I'm done speculating on Santana... I think :/

Pridie
He's 24 and has sucessed in the high minors. Gomez will go to AA to learn the Twins way. Pridie may make us forget we need a center fielder. I watched him play, you may be surprized what he bring to the table.

I like Pridie too...
I wouldn't mind a platoon of them if they both can handle it development-wise.

Otherwise, perhaps Pridie starts, has a very good season, and is spun to someone else, and Gomez is fully ready in 2009.

No bad options if they both turn out.

i forgot about span
denard span will not make the team this season as the centerfielder ecspecially with Carlos gomez and jason pridie fighting it out to the end. i think that pridie and gomez should share the job

We'll see
I just hope someone (anyone) steps up in Spring Training and claims the position instead of being handed it.

Center field...
...may now be the strongest position in the organization.  Will do my recap this weekend, but we have:

Pridie, Gomez, Span, Roberts, Martin, Benson, Santiesteban, Revere, Schmiessing and maybe Morales who can and will play all outfield positions.  That is a strong group...has to be one or two major league starters somewhere in there.

Agree.....
Or at least the Twins will have a steady supply of Dustin Mohrs, Lew Fords, Mike Ryans, Jason Tyners for the next 4-5 years if Gomez IS the centerfielder of the future.

Spring Training will be interesting. I hope the Twins bring the strongest (or hottest) candidates north. I wouldn't be disappointed if Pridie starts the season in centerfield and if the Twins bring along Span as the 4th outfielder, while Gomez gets his regular licks in at AAA for a couple of months. But if Pridie shines (and this could be his opportunity), then Gomez would have to dominate to push him aside, at least in 2008. By 2009 the Twins will start Gomez in center, because they have to.

It would be good to give Span some looksee at the major league level, rather than have him languish in the minors. Might make him more attractive to another team down the line. Plus, he would give us speed, which the current line-up lacks without the likes of Gomez or Casilla, both of whom will give the Twins ample base running glories in future years.
