Minnesota Twins Prospect #5 (Poll)

Angel Morales was our choice for Twins Prospect, #4, so let's continue. I think the four we've selected have been the four most put in their top four, so the voting could get very interesting starting now. I think that makes it more important to add some comments on the players you are voting for.

  1. Danny Valencia, 3B
  2. Ben Revere, OF
  3. Aaron Hicks, OF
  4. Angel Morales

Off the ballot (for this round) - Rob Delaney, Trevor Plouffe

On the ballot - Kevin Mulvey (back on), Deolis Guerra, Jeff Manship

Again, please vote for the player that you think is the Twins top prospect among those remaining on the ballot. Poll will be up for approximately 24 hours. Please vote, but also discuss your selection and the players available.

Star-divide

Again, if you have any questions or want to do some research on any of the prospects mentioned, one starting point might be http://www.sethspeaks.net/100208.htm. That is my personal Top 10 list, and it has links to all of my top 50 choices.

Ramos

Now that my personal top four are the group’s top four, I have been convinced to vote for Wilson Ramos over my choice for #5 when I ran it last week, Anthony Swarzak. Ramos is a catcher with potential both offensively and defensively. Also, he’s listed at just 20 years old and put up very solid numbers in the Florida State League, so that should be exciting! Swarzak was horrific at AA before being excellent (without Ks) in Rochester. You also have to question why he would have been so bad in AA.

And, I just can’t put a reliever this high. See my postings in the previous prospect poll (#4) comparing Mijares and Delaney. That’s why.

Agreed

I have to go Ramos here.

I’m excited about Swarzak as anyone, but I really need to see him complete a full year in AAA before I crown him in the top 5.

What would my life be like without the '91 World Series?

My vote goes to...

Mijares. I’ve been voting for him since #3 haha.

Mijares

I’d like someone to explain the vote for Mijares at this early stage of the rankings… again, why Mijares over Delaney who clearly was better all year.

+1

It also shows he can successful at a level that a lot of minor league pitchers never will be. That said I don’t think he’s top 5, but he is top 7.

I voted Ramos this time,

But I’m kind of torn. I’m excited about this top five, but I’m also excited about the young outfielders and the excellent catcher the Twins already have. I know these guys are a ways off, but Young/Span/Gomez and Mauer are all pretty young, and will be in their prime when these guys (if they really are this good) are ready for their shot. So I dread the discussions four years from now where we debate whether or not to extend Gomez or Span or Young or whether the Twins should go young again.

Or, even worse, have to trade someone as see them star somewhere else. Too much of a good thing makes me insecure, I guess.

Mijares

I voted for Ramos, but I will vote for Mijares next. To me, major league performance wipes the slate clean of the minor league numbers. Mijares was the Twins best reliever in September, which trumps Delaney being the best reliever in the minor league system all year. Plus, Mijares’ numbers were partly affected by his recovery. When it comes to arm injuries, I tend to focus on the most recent performances. Finally, he’s left handed. The Twins haven’t developed a good let handed reliever since JC Romero.

I agree with this...

I voted for Ramos again. I voted for him at #3 in fact. His upside, being a C, is higher than both Hicks and Morales to me. And he’s had success at a higher level too.

If we’re going to put “young/upside” guys at the top like Hicks and Morales (which I don’t disagree with) then Ramos NEEDS to be in that mix as well.

I’ll go Mijares and Swarzak next I’m sure, but Ramos’ upside is higher than anyone else in the Twins organization IMO, given his position.

I went with Hughes...

I think with a good spring training that he could be our starting 3B next season. Mijares will be in the bullpen next season so he is still a prospect?

Prospect

I said it a couple of polls ago… my definition of “prospect” is anyone who still has rookie eligibility. That is the official definition. BA and Aaron and others subscribe solely to the 130 AB or 50 IP limits. Either is fine. But yes, Mijares is definitely still a ‘prospect.’

my vote

I voted Mijares. He has had some success at the highest level. To me he is someone who will likely succeed at his position with the Twins. While Ramos is still very young for his league. He is still in A ball.

Macri

Matt Macri has experienced success at the highest level. Should we be voting for him too?

I just hope he gets a fair shot at the starting SS job for the Twins.

I think he would be an improvement on what we had this season.

SS?

He hasn’t played much SS the last two or three years in the minors, so I’m not sure why he’d get a shot there…

Time for a run off

Mijares and Ramos each have 51 votes as I write this.
