No fantasy sports. Tried both baseball and football, but for me, it makes me enjoy these sports less. Maybe it’s too much stress… maybe I just suck… oh well.
What would my life be like without the '91 World Series?

Good question
1.) Baseball – far and away the main one I watch – 4 fantasy leagues – generally competitive. Had won won league two years in a row… then finished last this year (14 team league). Finished 2nd in another league ths year that won the previous year. The other two leagues, upper half.
2a.) NBA – if there isn’t a good comedy or drama on – 1 fantasy league, a keeper league – not a good first year, hope to improve.
2b.) NFL – if there isn’t baseball on, and primarily to watch my fantasy teams – 2 fantasy leagues – usually compete, won two out of five years.
Big Drop here –
4.) College Football – The Gophers are even watchable this year.
5.) College Basketball – used to when I was in high school and into college, I guess… haven’t really paid much attention since Jeff Boschee left Kansas.
The other five are unwatchable, but just to put a ranking –
Tennis – women’s only…
NHL – college is better… hockey is actually fun to watch but only in person
Golf – boring!
Soccer – unwatchable, soccer wants to be hockey!
Auto Racing – drive fast, turn left. It is better than track & field which is run fast, turn left.
Come on, Seth. Golf is not boring!

Well put!!
Not even Tiger makes that worth watching…
My rankings
1) NFL – only sport I have a fantasy team in
2) MLB – I follow the Twins more closely than the Vikings, but I follow football in general more closely than baseball
HUGE GAP – I don’t consider myself much of a fan of the sports in this next section, and I only watch games when I don’t really have anything else to do, although I generally enjoy them
3) College Football (particularly The Division Formerly Known As 1-AA, since I’m an SDSU alum)
4) NBA
5) College Basketball
HUGE GAP – I occasionally enjoy watching these sports but hold no allegiances and don’t really care about what’s going on with them
6) NHL (hockey is excellent in person, and maybe I’d like it more if I grew up with it, but I care not a whit about the NHL)
7) Soccer (my wife use to play soccer, so I can at least competently follow a game)
8) Tennis
9) Golf
HUGE GAP
10) Auto racing
If you consider it a sport, American Gladiators outranks all of these except MLB and NFL once you factor in the fact that it’s my 3-year-old’s favorite television program, so he enjoys watching it with me. The long-defunct Battle Dome was even better.

Go Jackrabbits... I got to see them play Iowa State in football.
Iowa State was lucky they didn’t get beat. I know the women’s basketball coach and they have a heck of a program with homegrown talent. Both of my nieces are alums. One more time… Go Jackrabbits….

my answers
1. MLB
2. college basketball
3. NFL
4. College Football
5. tennis
6. NBA
7 (tied): NASCAR, NHL, soccer, and golf, none of which I follow much. Though I do love the World Cup.
Fantasy: My favorite fantasy sport is easily football, but I also like baseball as long as it’s weekly lineups (so I don’t have to set it every day). I used to do basketball but don’t anymore mainly because I don’t follow the NBA so closely (hence the ranking above).
1. Baseball

that’s about it, other than College Baseball… don’t watch much of the others

I really don’t watch any Tennis, Golf or Racing. And for that matter, not really any Soccer. But, that’s the order I’d probably choose if I did. Mostly for me it’s baseball, football and basketball…

1/2 MLB—-Twins… Daily predominantly April – October…European Soccer—-AFC Wimbledon…Daily predominantly mid-August-Early May. (Watch religiously on Saturday and Sunday mornings)
3 NASCAR/Formula 1
4. Horse Racing
5-9 Depending on the Season:
NHL, NFL, College Fooball (U Va, Missouri), College Basketball (George Mason, U Va, Missouri), NBA (April-July).
10. College Baseball
Baseball (lifelong favorite) and Soccer permit daily excitement 365/6 days each year.
I have experienced 2 Twins World Series wins in my lifetime, yet there is NOTHING which has the emotional Highs/Lows as Soccer. A World Series win Super Bowl win are great, yet the next year one starts from scratch. In European Soccer, there is nothing so devistating as relegation, and nothing quite as satisfying as promotion.
With the Twins, I can follow each game with any number other Twins fans from around the USA on several blogs. On Saurday mornings in particular, I can get a web-cast of AFC Wimbledon, and interact with supporters from Australia, Singapore, Bulgaria, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Holland, Italy, Romania, Norway, Belgium, the UK and USA. Where else can one find a global common interest?
I don’t generally do fantasy sports, yet I do participate in a England Premier League fantasy team for fun.

Okay ... this comment is going to date me.
I remember my first professional soccer match being held in the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. I didn’t understand the game but loved being in that stadium on a great spring evening with 30,000 other drunk screaming fans. God am I old….
Drinking's the thing...
at least in the UK.
I have been following UK soccer for 10+years.
I remember with much humor, 7/8 years ago when WE were still in the Premiership as Wimbledon FC. There was an FA Cup game to be played at Watford, approx 15 miles north and 45 or so minutes by train/subway.
The Saturday games are 3:00pm starts. ALL week the supporters were posting how they would be drinking at several pubs in Wimbledon (which opened at 11:00am) and would drink until 1:30pm, at which time they would take the train to Watford, and meet up at a pub outside the ground in Watford, for one last drink before the game.
It seemed that the game was secondary to the drinking.

For me...
1. MLB
2. College Hockey (added in myself)
3. College Football
4. NFL
5. NHL
The rest I don’t follow or watch really at all. I guess I catch the occasional NBA or college basketball game when there is nothing else on.

I read this blog every day but had never joined to post a comment. I signed up today just so auto racing didn’t finish last in all of the lists. I started following NASCAR when I moved to North Carolina from Minneapolis. If you live in North Carolina and don’t know who won the last race or which driver has the points lead, people think your form outer space.
Tier 1 – Baseball
1. MLB
Tier 2 – Sports I enjoy following
2. NFL
3. NBA
4. Tennis
Tier 2 – Indifference
5. NHL
6. Soccer
7. Golf
8. Auto Raciing
Tier 3 – Sports I truly dislike
9. College Football
10. College Basketball
I dislike college football because the vast majority of games feature a match up of superior offensive talent against relatively poor defensive talent (and yes there are exceptions of course). I dislike college basketball because the 3-point line is too short for the caliber of player playing. It severely subtracts from the incentive of a 2-point jumpshot. Also, I have a problem with players playing without pay when they’re helping keep 90 seat stadiums full, but that’s another can of worms.
Why not
1 – Baseball
2 – NFL and College Football
3 – …
4- …
5- …
6- NHL/NBA/Major Golf tournaments/March Madness
Everything else? Eh, whatever.
For fantasy, my fantasy football teams are only ok, I’ve won some leagues but had some bad teams too. For baseball, well, this is the first year is 4 years I didn’t win my fantasy league, so how’s that?
"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."
