Again, if you have any questions or want to do some research on any of the prospects mentioned, one starting point might be http://www.sethspeaks.net/100208.htm. That is my personal Top 10 list, and it has links to all of my top 50 choices.

I'm going Mulvey...
but I would request that Guttierez is added next rd. I think he’d be my next vote.
It’d be between him, Plouffe, and Manship I think.
Just a note -
To remain on the ballot, I have been requiring 4-5%, depending on how it looks. Gutierrez has been on a couple of times and not received that, including last time… That’s why he is off the list. But this is exactly what I need to know who to add to the list next vote. thank you!
No prob, Seth...
and thanks again for doing this.
On another note, it’s really interesting to think about what 1 year can do for our perceptions of guys. Just look at the drop for Parmalee and Benson. And I’m not judging anyone; I’ve changed my perception dramatically for them as well.
It’d be interesting to do a study of the guys that do/don’t pan out and track people’s perceptions of them throughout their rise through the minors.
Lists
I’ve done Top 50 Twins Prospect lists for about 4-5 years. Someday, I would like to go through my lists and do some sort of analysis. Nick Blackburn would be a perfect example of changing perceptions. By the end of 2005, I had him low in my top ten. Midseason ‘06, he dropped to the 30s or so. End of season ’06, he was way down there. Midseason 2007, when he was back in New Britain and not doing much again, he was off the list… So, when I ranked him at #27 when Baseball America ranked him #1, it was shocking for me to see him that high. Now a year later, what are our thoughts… It’s crazy…
And, for the record, I ranked Parmelee #13 and Benson #17. Last year after the season, I think I had Benson at #10 and Parmelee at #15, so personally, my perception hasn’t changed much on either… I still like the potential of Benson and think he will be very good. I actually like Parmelee better now than I did a year ago.
Great stuff Seth...
What makes you like Parmelee better this year? Just curious. Is is the OBP ability?
I got some great scouting reports on Benson this summer from a guy that played with him in high school. He said that Benson’s arm was ridiculous and that they would seriously design plays around it.
Oh...
and this guy worked for Beloit last summer as well.
thoughts
Of course we don’t know, but…
Parmelee has crazy power and a great ability to draw walks. He’s going to strike out a lot… But Adam Dunn gets on base, hits home runs and strikes out a lot too. Of course we don’t know if he’ll turn into Adam Dunn or Rob Deer, or neither, but i like the OPS potential..
Benson is such a tremendous athlete. Strong, lightning fast, good defender, Rocket for an arm. Just needs to put the ball in play. as that develops, he’s got a chance.
Agree with your thoughts on Parmalee Seth...
…as he really was having an excellent season when he went down for the season. If he could have had an entire year to work on cutting down the strikeouts a bit, he may have graded out quite high at year end. We have to expect that both Benson and Parmalee will begin next year at Ft. Myers, hopefully, Parmalee will have another great first half and move up to New Britain at mid-season.
Shooter
I’ll have to go with Hunt here. I would have loved to pick Plouffe, Mulvey, or even Benson here, but Hunt in the next available on my Top 15 list. He is actually the third on my list.
If you haven’t checked it out, I factor in both ceiling and chance of making it to the majors. Hunt has a very high ceiling, and he will likely be pushed through the organization pretty fast if he can regain his control.
Just look at how fast the Twins moved him from E-Town when he posted a 0.47 ERA, 34 K, and six BB. He lost his control in a major way in Beloit, but he will remain there next year and possibly earn another promotion later.
Even he doesn’t perfect his control issues he has the potential to be the next Fausto Carmona; a solid middle-of-the-rotation starter who walks a LOT of batters. (Scott Kazmir or Edwin Jackson would be good examples as well.)

I Went With Rob Delaney
I believe Rob Delaney is the best out of all of them – he has a career 1.91 ERA in 174 innings pitch. He also holds a 9.57 K/9 and 1.45 BB/9 average. Those numbers show he seems pretty solid all around. Relief pitchers are highly valuable – I.E. Pat Neshek – and Delaney is starting to look like a pretty darn good one.
Very true.
He would have been my next choice…and I’ll vote for him next round. My only reasoning for picking Shooter was because I would rather have him at his full potential on my team than Delaney at full potential.

I went Plouffe ...
because the Twins have a serious need for middle infield talent. Mulvey would have been my second choice. I guess Seth’s opinion of RP is why Delaney only has 3 votes. I would like to see more players from the Beloit team on the list. Some of them should be in Conn. next season. So how about Kelly, Singleton, Dolenc, and Steadley?
that should read Florida not Conn.
All though, one or two of the above four could find their way to Conn. by the end of the season.
he was once
thought to be a talented SS, but now he has dwindled. He still hits very well, but he has Uggla (UGH!) type fielding.
Mulvey
I went with Mulvey… in my rankings I had him #8… I had Plouffe 11. I had Hunt 16. Gutierrez 10. Tosoni 15. Parmelee 13.
Let's not forget McCardell
My vote goes to McCardell. He has shown consistency through three levels, GCL, E-ton, and Beloit. His minor league career shows 198 IP, 234 K’s, 33 BB’s. He certainly should have moved up to Ft. Myers last year. Next year he should be one to watch. Although I like Shooter, I have a hard time voting too high on college pitchers that dominate at Elizabethton. He clearly struggled in the Midwest League. Before I rank him too high I want to see a full year in the minors.
We are now getting to the area...
…where most of these guys have some reason to be ranked very high, yet have some concerns as well. I went with Rene Tosoni again, as I believe he is potentially a star who will hit 20-25 home runs a year with a +.300Average. In addition he is a solid outfielder as demonstrated by the Miracle moving him to center field for the playoffs. Of all the players on this list at this point, he could become the best. We need to remember that he had only 1 year of professional ball behind him (ETon in 2007) when the Twins had him skip a level and jump past Beloit and Benson/Parmalee. One can certainly get excited about the futures of Manship and McCardell, but I am out on a limb as one who believes that Rene Tosoni will become a star for the Twins 3-4 years in the future.
How to pick
It was between Delaney, Hunt and Tosoni. Obviously, we all have to weigh ceilings and probabilities. I went with Hunt, because it is clear that he can strike people out, and he was extremely good in college. I don’t know how fast he will progress, as I expect the team to really pressure him to lower his walk rate. Still, I think that a strike out pitcher can get out of jams created with walks, much as a strike-out prone batter can make up for it with HRs.
To me, that beat out Delaney, who is a reliever that has always been old for his level, and Tosoni, who shows tremendous potential but seems much farther away.
Have a question Snolls...
…as to what you meant by your last comment about Tosoni being much farther away. Tosoni jumped a level this year, skipping Beloit and moving up to Ft. Myers where he played very well, although missed a good chunk of the season with a broken foot. Hunt did well following the draft at ETon, then struggled with his control at Beloit. Considering that Tosoni was successful at a level one step closer than Hunt, was curious what you meant by that comment?
