Alright, we are up to #20. Anthony Slama easily topped Philip Humber for the #17 spot. In a very close vote, Brian Duensing was the leading vote-getter for #19 when the poll closed. Again, please vote for the player that you think is the Twins top prospect among those remaining on the ballot. Poll will be up approximately 24 hours. Please vote, but also discuss your selection and the players available. Finally, if there are names you feel should be added to a ballot, mention them as well.
Not to self-promote, but here is the link to my Prospect choices for 11-20 (http://www.sethspeaks.net/100108.htm). All of the top ten are already chosen. This link provides some information on the players you are voting for.

Prospect Runoff
How far are we going on this? 25? I remember last year it was a really long list and people stopped participating. It seems like we are reaching the more obscure names, some still known but not as many.
hope
I hope we can get to 30, but we shall see.

Tosoni...
…should certainly be picked sometime soon. With numbers similar to the #1 and #5 selection with Ft. Myers, this young man should likely have been chosen before this time. Was curious Seth, with a one vote difference why wasn’t there a runoff between Duensing and Tosoni? I know that there were four with votes 1 vote less than the next player…could have had a four player run off had you wished.
As for how far this goes, I for one would like to see it go all the way to #50. There are so many good prospects remaining. Each of these nine (well, we don’t know much about Hermsen who has yet to pitch to his first professional hitter) is deserving of recognition and there many others that getting to #50 would be easy, especially the way you are using runoffs this year and filling 2 or 3 spots.
I went with Romero again...
Just too much upside to ignore IMO.
Tosoni should be in the mix shortly though for me.
Duensing is Sneaky Good
He kind of snuck in there without much discussion. Here’s hoping he can slide into some spot starts and exceed my lofty Gassneresque expectations.
I forget who Hermsen is, other that he was the pick not expected to sign—position, etc.
I guess I must be a dreaded flip-flopper. I look at this list and realize I was voting for McCardell at 15 but not at 19. If Duensing is at 19 because he is the #7 starter, then I go McCardell next, as at age 26 I expect he could be a #3.
Deunsing is Dave Gassner.
I went with McCardell. I think Bromberg, McCardell and Tolleson should be picked before Tosini. I see some potential with Tosini, but he hasn’t shown enough of a history. He can take a walk, and hit .300. Looks like a future Shannon Stewart with less speed based on what I have seen so far. He did skip a level last year. but The others show promise too and a longer track record. being as I am not a scout, the best I can do is go off the numbers and Tosini is inconclusive comparably speaking at this time. I have no doubt he is a prospect, just not sure where to put him in the pecking order.
?
how has McCardell shown more history than Tosoni? he’s been in the system a lot less. And Bromberg has been around a little bit, but has been good at lower levels than Tosoni. I get what you’re trying to say and at this point, you could make arguments for many, but i don’t think ‘history’ is a good reason.
And, I would say that Duensing is better than Gassner, probably not quite as good as Perkins.
Gassner
Gassner was a little extreme. but he won 15 games in AAA then had a mediocre season then was gone. Deunsing had a good season last year then a mediocre one this year. I was under the impression he was a soft tosser. doesn’t k alot of people.
I think Tosoni is a good prospect. he skipped a level and I have read good reports about him. but only 4 HRs and more than 1 k per 5 AB. he does have a .300 average and can walk. He looks like a legitamate Shannon Stewart at this point. I don’t have enough info as he only has 398 career AB. I have not seen him play so I don’t have anything to compare but the stats and they don’t jump out to me as much as McCardell’s or Bromberg’s. Tolleson was successfull at AA and in instructional league so far and he has good reports on him. Also I didn’t rate Tolleson as high on the list when he had his injury problems a couple of years ago. Next year I can see me moving Tosoni way up on the prospect list, maybe even in the top 10. just not now.
Duensing is Perkins
Gassner never touched 90. Duensing is consistently over 90. If it weren’t for the TJ surgery in college, he would have been a first-round pick. He’s had one off year in his minor league career, which is one less than Perkins. And he was a stud at the Olympics. So I’d go with Duensing, if it weren’t for McCardell still being on the board. He’s right behind Manship on my list.

I'm not a big Duensing fan...
and I hope we trade him in one of our packages this winter.
Why?
He has very good numbers as a whole in his minor league career. He’s relatively young for his level. He keep the ball on the ground and he’s left handed. What’s not to like?

He's decent, I don't dispute that...
but I think Seth nailed it; I think he’s a little less good than Perkins. And I’m not a big Perkins fan either. Both are #5 starters in this organization to me, so if we can get good value for either of them in a trade, that’s the route I’d prefer to go, personally.
Nothing personally against him; I just think we get more out of either one in a deal than on our roster.
OK
If so, he should be rated higher than 20th in the organization. How many sure thing fifth starters do we have?

Before the season started, I was saying that Perkins should go to the bullpen and Duensing could be the #5 starter. I think Duensing could be a solid big league starter.
That was my plan late this year...
but with Humber instead of Duensing.
I still think Perkins should be traded to get good value; Humber would do just as good IMO.
It is time for McCardell
McCardell has a lot of upside – great curveball, great K/BB ratio. I think they left him in Beloit to work with ex-AA pitching coach Gary Lucas. I won’t be surprised it he makes it to AA before the end of the season. Seth ranked him #18 with this to say, “McCardell has a good fastball, a great curveball and terrific control. But he needed to work on his changeup. A report from a scout from another organization says that he "has major league potential, has command of all three pitches, and he has moxie." He continued, "nothing rattles him… He goes out and does his job."”
Next, should be Rene Tosoni – I watched him play in Elizabethton and he has some arm. I think he has real potential. Let’s hope he is healthy this season and proves that he belongs in the low 20"s on this list.
