Prospect Run-Off (Burnett or Ladendorf)
We have a prospect run-off between Alex Burnett and Tyler Ladendorf. The winner of this vote will rank #29, the loser #30.
Please note that I will continue to do prospect rankings up to #50, but it will be run a little differently and will be explained later.
For now, please make your selection between RHP Alex Burnett and 3B/SS Tyler Ladendorf.

Ladendorf
has no professional resume yet. He shouldn’t be voted on. Can someone find a probability comparable of a second round pick making it to the majors vs an A ball All Star?

I just don't understand...
…how ladendorf gets these votes. Maybe Tyler reads this site and has figured out a way to vote many, many times! doofus asks the question that if answered clearly indicates who deserves the vote. And for those who didn’t know, Burnett began this season at Hi-A ball at the age of 20…while Ladendorf was 20 in the GCL. Nearly same age, three levels higher and achieved all-star status in A ball vs. one of the poorest hitters in the lowest level of rookie ball. Do I hope that Ladendorf turns it around, certainly. However, to be ranked higher than so many players who have performed isn’t right!

I agree
Burnett is a good prospect. He’s put up very respectable numbers at a young age for his level. He’s one year older than Guerra but he put up much better numbers than one of the Twins top ten prospects in the system at the same level. And he’s been pretty consistent through his four-year minor league career. These are his FIPs as a teenager: 3.48, 3.58, 3.98.
And I just can’t rank a guy on predraft evaluations alone. Ladendorf has to do something as a professional before I rank him. Ladendorf did nothing at a level he should have dominated last year.

I voted Burnett, but
predraft evaluations do have some value. The Twins have indeed missed on quite a few high picks over the last few years, and Ladendorf may well be another, but one bad short season shouldn’t obscure the fact he still has great upside.
As an extreme example, if the Twins had been able to draft Evan Longoria at some point, would he not have vaulted his way at least into the top 20 or even 10, before playing a professional game?

Ladendorf and Longoria
Well, of course Longoria, a number 1 overall draft choice, would be raked very highly regardless of minor league track record. But he’s the exception to the rule. Second-round picks still need to prove themselves, imho. If Ladendorf is anywhere near Longoria, he would be the steal of the draft.

A vote for Ladendorf...
… is predicated on pre-draft evaluations alone. The draft is full of busts, and raw numbers in the GCL are suspect, but I’ll take my chances on the actual performance over the pre-draft stuff unless some field staffer is providing the argument.

Let's all have a beer with Jake Mauer...
…and have him tell us who he’s impressed with. He might be singing the praises of Anderson Hidalgo, not Ladendorf, but he might just as readily be wildly high on Ladendorf and think Hidalgo sucks despite his numbers.

Why no Waltenbury?
Has anyone seen this kid hit? I think he should have been somewhere in the top 15. When Revere left Extended Spring, a great number of people said the best hitter in Extended was Jonathan Waltenbury. This is a major prospect. He has a smooth stroke, with decent power already, but is projected to add substantial power as time passes. He hits gaps. He takes walks. He does not strike out a lot. What is not to like, for a 20 year old who had a great season at E-Town.

Yeah
I rank him in the mid 30s, but he could shoot up after a solid first full season.
