Howard Sinker " Is the time right to trade Carlos Gomez?
*Does a team with the ongoing needs of the Twins, especially when it comes to power, need two players who essentially do the same thing — play a solid center field, run very well, hit a few homers and have the potential (one shown in 2008, one still developing) to bat leadoff for years to come?
*Would you be looking to trade one of them sooner rather than later? If so, which one would you deal? Or would you rather have Gomez in center and Span in right for the next several years?
*Do you buy the notion, advanced by Gomez and sometimes talked about on Twins broadcasts, that he will eventually be a middle-of-the-order hitter who will combine power and speed?
*How much should Gomez’ popularity figure into the discussion?
*What does it say if a team jettisons a player because it is wary of dealing with his agent?

COME ON!!!
by this philosophy, we should have traded Mauer in 2005. Come on people! Gomez is young and will develop…good God, just give him time! Span will play LF, Gomez in CF, Young in RF. That looks like a solid YOUNG outfield to me that will patrol the Twins outfield for years and VERY cheaply!
The differance is
mauer was good and there wasn’t anyone better to replace him with that may be the case here.

I can't see it
Gomez is only 22 and will get better. His defense is already gold-glove caliber and his offense will improve. Now, I don’t think he will develop power like some people do but I think he could be a fairly good 1st or 2nd hitter with tremendous speed. I think Joe Vavra will be teaching him some much needed plate discipline. Hes got good work ethic.
Right now his value isn’t very high, it would be foolish to trade him now when he is costing the Twins pocket change. He isn’t eligible for arbitration for another 3 or four years.
Sinker is sinking.
This is just loony. I have no words here to describe how bizarre this tidbit is. There is no upside to this discussion because it is based on the notion that Gomez will not be a high-caliber player. Weird and not at all forward looking

twins trade carlos gomez and i will become a really pissed off man
ya he struggled last year, but no way in hell i am ready to give up on the kid, he showed the potential to be amazing and i think that he will live up to that billing
everything Rays,Marlins,Twins and Reds
Why trade him now
when you can put him in AAA for a year, so that he can show how much potential he has, then trade him for higher value. Or find out that Span was a one hit wonder, and Gomez is his replacement.
