Minor League Report...December 6, 2008

Just a quick update from Denver on how the Aragua Tigres are doing.  They are currently in third place with a 20-19 record, 5.5 games out of first.

Matt Tolbert and several more Twins prospects have joined the team.  It had been reported earlier that Luke Hughes would be leaving about now for Australia where he would be playing with his home team in preparation for next springs World Tournament.  LaVelle from the Star Tribune was reporting yesterday that the Twins may be talking to Luke about delaying his return home.  As of yesterday, Hughes had 99 at bats with a .293/.340/.424 and 3 doubles, 2 triples, 2 home runs and 14 rbi.

Wilson Ramos is hitting .290/.302/.290 in 62 at bats with 3 doubles, 1 home run and 10 rbi.  Matt Tolbert is hitless in his first 8 at bats.  Rodolpho Palacios had one hitless at bat early in the VWL season.

Jose Mijares has now appeared in 18 games (16.1 innings) with a 2-1 record, 8 saves, 0.55ERA and 18K/5BB.  Oswaldo Sosa and Yohan Pino have also joined the Tigres.  Sosa has a 5.79ERA in 4.2 innings with 3K/1BB.  Pino has a 0.00ERA in 5.0 innings with 5K/2BB.  One of the GCL Twins top pitchers last summer was Miguel Munoz.  Munoz has a 5.40ERA in 1.2 inning with 1K/0BB.

Frank Mata has pitched 15.2 innings for the Tigres.  Mata, a short reliever, has a 4.60ERA and 12K/8BB.  Bobby Korecky has appeared in 15.0 innings with a 1-1 record, 6.00ERA and 12K/6BB.  Edgar Ibarra has a 0.00ERA in 1.0 inning with 1K/2BB.  Danny Hernandez has a 9.00ERA in 2.0 innings with a 0-1 record and 3K/0BB.  Former Twin Carmen Cali has a 2.70ERA in 13.1 innings with a 0-1 record and 12K/8BB.

It is great seeing Mijares and Tolbert get playing time after missing a significant part of the 2008 season.  It is also exciting seeing Wilson Ramos hit as well as he is considering a lot of the pitchers he is facing are pitchers with either major league or AAA/AA experience.

With the Twins opening up additional space on their 40-man roster all indications are that there should be some things happening in the next few days or at next week's Winter meetings.  Have a great week everybody.
