Humber Options

It has been talked about for several weeks now that Humber may be out of options and would have to stay in the majors. Someone posted a link on LaVelle E. Neal's site that includes the guidelines for counting option years and apparently Humber can be optioned for a fourth year because he has less than 5 years of pro experience.

Weee!
Wee, that makes things very much more interesting for the last pitching spots now.
Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

Yes!
Now, none of the guys on the bubble are out of options. So let the best men win!

Works for me!
Let's sign another 1-2 old free agent relievers and go with a 7 man rotation in Rochester ;)

Re: Humber options
Humber has never been called up Prior to Rosters Expanding, he should have plenty of options. Granted I think it's very likely he makes your roster out of camp anyways as there's really no purpose to keeping him in the Minor Leagues anymore, he pitched a full year in AAA last year.

Major league contract
It's rare for a player to sign a major league contract right out of the draft. When he does, he's added to the 40-man roster without even throwing a pitch. Each spring, he must be optioned to the minor-league team for which he plays. Because Humber signed such a contract, he was optioned out in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Typically, a player only has three options, so that's the context of why we had a question about his options.

It turns out that the latest agreement added a clause for players who sign major league contracts out of the draft. That clause adds an fourth option. So Humber had four options to begin with and he has one left.

Yep
We can expect this new clause to result in more major league contracts being signed right out of the draft. This could get ugly if high school pitchers start signing major league contracts right away. No telling when most of them end up ready, even the top 10s.
