Tyner Stays in the AL Central

Jason Tyner has signed a minor-league deal with the Indians.  As the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports, Jake Westbrook is already hearing about it from his teammates:

Taped on Jake Westbrook's locker Thursday morning was the press release that the Indians had signed outfielder Jason Tyner to a minor league contract.

Last year Tyner hit his only big-league homer off Westbrook while playing with the Twins. Westbrook, a friend of Tyner's, sent him an autographed ball after the game saying, "I'd rather give up No. 756."

Could we be seeing more of The Tyniest Outfielder this year?

I'm glad
I'm glad Tyner is geting a shot somewhere.  Good luck to him.

He'd have hit several homrs last year if not for the metrodome.  I personally witnessed about 3 or 4 go off the top of the baggie.

Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

Tyner
I can't believe he didn't get picked up quickly by an NL team.  Say what you will about him, but his bat has always been productive above expectation from the left side and can play enough defense for a double switch.  He seems like such a useful bench player for the NL.

I agree
I think he's a victim of the more general problem for free agents this winter. Mark Sweeney, who's quite possibly the top left handed hitting pinch hitter/fourth outfielder on the market, didn't sign until a week before camp. I think he signed a major league deal, though.

Teams are going with youth more than ever. In our case, we have Pridie and Span who can serve as fourth outfielders in case they don't win the center field job. Looking around the league that's the norm more than ever.

I'm actually surprised he signed before either Lofton or Patterson. I would rather have either of those guys to Tyner, mostly because he hates to take a walk.

Well Yeah
Well yeah, but you probably don't sign either Lofton or Patterson to be bench players, and you definitely don't sign them without a guaranteed job.

I'm just happy...
because if he plays, with his arm, this probably means a couple extra runs for Gomez this season.
