I have just compared the Gomez win-loss record vs. Span's win-loss record. Interesting statistics! I also will include the Twins record when the start together. These are only the games in which they start-even if they get substituted out, I still give the win or loss to them.
Go-Go's win-loss record when he starts:
6 wins - 4 losses
Span's win loss record:
2 wins - 4 losses
When Both start:
2 wins - 1 loss
Interesting isn't it? So, apparently Gomez isn't going to make much difference in the number of wins or losses the club will suffer this season.
But, from where I sit, I see the same number of losses whether it is Gomez or Span so that part of the controversy is right, but, look at the number of wins. Gomez has 4 more wins than Span does.
As I have said before, Gomez brings an electricity to the ballclub and his defense is better than Span's, no matter how much you try to deny it. Gomez has made running catches, bang into the wall catch, cutting balls off in the gap, diving catches, throwing runners out. What has Span done? A few running catches, no diving catches, no crash into the wall catch, one runner thrown out.
So, who would you prefer? Gomez or Span? Who would you rather watch? Span or Gomez? Who will bring more wins to the club? Gomez or Span?
