Gomez Pulled From Game
Center fielder walks off the field in pain.
While there's no word yet on the severity of the injury, Carlos Gomez was pulled after chasing down a fly ball in the fifth inning of Wednesday's game against the Rays. Currently he's listed as day-to-day, and it was only diagnosed as a "left hamstring cramp". Hopefully a few days rest are all that's required. Prior to being pulled, Gomez was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
Check back here for additional details as they arrive.

Sounds like
He'll be in tomorrow's lineup against the Reds in Sarasota. Hopefully it's one of those things that will just wear off with more play.

You're probably right...
...it's so easy for things to get blown out of proportion, considering the time of year and the player involved. At least I hope it's been blown out of proportion.

From Joe C:
Gomez had cramping in his left hamstring, nothing more, and practically begged Gardenhire to make Thursday’s trip to Sarasota, Fla. Gardenhire agreed but told Gomez he’d be furious is something more serious happens to his leg.

Whew!
Listening to the broadcast, it didn't sound good, like it was a knee problem. For a guy like Gomez, a knee problem can derail his career. So this is the best of all possible outcomes.

The better news:
Baker threw 49 pitches in a three-inning start for Class AAA Rochester. Gardenhire said Baker could add 15 to that pitch count on Sunday, in another minor-league start, and still start the fifth game of the season against Kansas City.
He was supposed to throw 70 I think, but all must be okay...

At least Gomez didn't attempt to finish the game in pain. I'm glad that this communication is at least fairly good.
Two years ago with Liriano, the communication between him and the management was awful.
Here's to a better 2008.
