First game of the regular season with Monroe. Already ticked off.

Good so far
Hernandez is falling apart in the fifth, but he has been located his pitches good, and has lots of groundouts.
How about Gomez, huh?

Oooh
Oh, how HAPPY did it make me when Monroe went 0-3 and Kubel whacked a double in his only at bat (Ok, so it wasn't really a double and wasn't really a "whack" but still, I enjoyed that).
Baseball is great because you cant take a knee or kill the clock. You gotta put the ball over the plate and give the other guy his damn shot E Weaver abridged

You know, that was nice.
Do you get the feeling Delmon and Gomez have a private competition going on to see who can earn the title of "coolest new kid"?
Also, did anyone see Gomez's reaction after his strikeout? This kid is going to have to learn how to fail this season (and by fail, I mean not automatically succeed at everything he tries). He's also going to have to learn how to pace himself, or by August his heart's going to explode like a rabbit being chased by a terrier.
Cuddy always posts a great line, but I forgot how ugly it is when he strikes out. The ugliness always somehow obscures the solid line in my mind.
Neshek has tweaked his delivery to look even more weird. Probably has recognized that while he's a good pitcher, his greatness comes from his ability to make batters go, "What the fuck?" Good that he's making an effort to change it up and keep the weirdness from becoming familiar.
Nathan. Dude. Nathan.

Gomez's reaction struck me very much as more of "I can't believe I swung at that %#$%!" than just "I can't believe I failed!" This strikes me as a good thing for a leadoff man to be thinking about.
I think batting in front of Mauer is going to do wonders for his plate discipline, since he has to hear how he shouldn't have swung on his way back to the dugout each time.

Taking pitches
Just imagine if he could learn to take walks. This guy walking is almost worth a double.
I understand that some people (Vlad) are nice with swinging at everything, but Rickey Henderson didn't get to attempt 172 steals in '82 by swinging away. He had a .267 average, but was able to turn that into a .398 OBP. My rough math says that, for his career, he walked 1 out of every 7 trips to the plate (or twice every 3 games).
This turned a very mediocre .279 career hitter into a hall of famer. (OBP .401). Seriously, I can't even get over how important pitch selection is going to be to Gomez career.
