The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Pirates outfielder Xavier Nady, fresh from a heroic two-homer performance in lifting his hometown club over the visiting Atlanta Braves, is reporting pain in his right shoulder. Speculation is that this could be a recurrence of shoulder-related problems Nady suffered in the minor leagues, and could be serious enough to require season-ending surgery.
The report also indicates that the Pirates are close to announcing a trade to acquire a replacement for Nady, sending reserve second-baseman Luis Rivas and $200,000 cash to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for outfielder/designated-hitter Jason Kubel.
UPDATE: The story has apparently been removed from the Post-Gazette's website, as the above link now generates a 404 'file not found' error. To this point, no one from the Pirates organization is commenting on Nady's condition, and neither team is commenting on the rumored trade
