Livan Hernandez vs. Gilgameche

Better late than never, right?  Livan just wriggled out of a bases loaded one-out jam by striking out Jose Guillen and getting Billy Butler to ground out.  Livan's really been getting a lot of ground balls these days, and I hope that has more to do with him than it does the Angels and Royals.  Time will tell.

Do you believe in miracles?

2.57 ERA. I never would have believed that a month ago. I know it won't stick but it at least gives hope that he can be decent this year and not the crap we thought we were getting. Let's hop he's not Ramon Ortiz all over again.

Matt Tolbert, batting title, rookie of the year and MVP haha. I just hope Gardy keeps playing the guy as long as he's hot.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Yeah

Agreed. And I hope he keeps Punto away from the lineup for as long as possible.

Kind of weak here on the blog guys

Twins versus White Sox?

Filed after the game was over?

WTF?

The flagship blog just ran up the white flag on a good night for the Twins.

What can we say? We were off watching hockey!*

Ooops

Just trying to help out here. And it wasn't filed after the game either. You know, you're kind of an ass.

Probably should keep my mouth shut,

but I couldn't agree more. I was dissapointed to find no thread posted as I tuned in late (just in time to hear Gomez hit his "double" over Teahan's head), but things happen.

You had an off night, I am not sure that justifies such scorn. Kudos for Ubelmann for seeing the error (if late) and trying to fix it.

Hey, that's fine

I'm disappointed in myself for missing the game thread, there's nothing wrong with you being disappointed. I have to stay on top of that one.

Should have been more clear.

Sorry I whipped that reply off. I couldn't agree more with you and Ubelmann. Missing a game thread is not a big deal. Prior to this incarnation of the site we only had game threads once in a while. I am not sure what would justify any of the members to be so angry, sarcastic, and scornful at all of you for having missed one game thread. Its not a big deal. I was able to tune in for awhile when my daughter started playing dollhouse with my wife (that allows me to escape to my office and put the game on) and was disappointed that there was no thread, but its ok.

I'm glad to see that the five of you all had better things to do last night than sit in front of your computer one night out of 160. Enjoy yourselves and don't worry about a game thread here or there. If it is important to one of us we can pick it up in the "fanpost" section.

Again, thanks to Ubelmann for seeing the mistake and trying to fix it.

I may be an ass

But, at least I'm not a bad ass :)

And, I am careful not to name call.

by Old Twins Cap on Apr 12, 2008 5:34 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

This was my fault.

I completely blanked scheduling a game thread for last night's game. Ubelmann picked up my slack on his own good merits.

I have to agree you seem increasingly unahppy with this blog, or at the very least, me. If you have a problem with the content here I suggest you take it up with me away from public comments. You'll find my email in my profile.

Actually, I am quite happy with this blog.

I think it is much improved, and I do think this should be the flagship blog for the Twins. Being that I am a strong supporter of "crowd sourcing", I think this is a great contribution to the community of Twins Fandom.

One way that a blog gets better is because the knowledge base of its users is extensive, and community members chip in ideas and insights where they can. I think that is starting to happen more and more, and I appreciate that.

My intention is to provide the kind of perspective and feedback that will lead to a better site; not to be a nattering nabob of negativism.

I think you will see that my history of comments has fit within that framework, and where I have strayed, I have tried to make amends.

Last night, the game thread title read

Game 10 Twins at White Sox
. Now, if this was a mainstream media outlet, like the Strib, any blogger worth his salt would have been critical of that level of reportage since the Twins were freezing their asses off in KC.

Do you want site visitors here to treat this site different than they would other media outlets? Or, would you just as soon become the best blogsite possible by dint of close reading and commenting by your users? As a site manager of several blogsites, I know that it takes a thick skin to run this kind of operation, so I do appreciate your efforts.

But really, I think we should push each other to become excellent in terms of thinking, analyzing and writing because the quality of our interest in baseball, does, as Bill James has shown, have a material impact on a team's actual performance.

I'd just as soon have a good team to follow on every level, and I assume the same for TT's editorial cadre.

Unfair Expectations

I think we should push each other to become excellent in terms of thinking, analyzing and writing

While I agree with your premise , it seems vastly unfair to compare a professional media outlet such as the Strib against a couple bloggers who do this in their spare time.

Strib writers 1) write for a living, 2) have editors to ensure things like the mistaken matchup isn't published and 3) make far more and far worse errors, even with editors than I have EVER seen the managers of this blog make.

Jesse, cmath and the like have done an outstanding job providing this community with analysis, thought-provoking material and a general outlet for discussion. They should be lauded for their efforts.

Now, to be fair, perhaps you were simply calling out the error, which is perfectly okay, but how you did it was a little harsh. That's all.

What would my life be like without the '91 World Series?

Funny stuff

It was hilarious reading what Gardy said. It was something like, "You can't just sit on that curve ball from Hernandez because when you do, he pops you with that 84 mph fastball." LOL

"I don't think it's nice, you laughin'. See, my mule don't like people laughing. He gets the crazy idea you're laughing at him. Now if you apologize, like I know you're going to, I might convince him that you really didn't mean it . . ."

Good Quote

I hadn't seen that. Though, if Gardenhire watched Gameday at all he would know that Livan would be "popping" them with an 84 mph changeup. Ha!

Bill Smith I give you a small bow from Japan

I have to say that the hitters, although inconsistent so far, at least seem to have the potential to string some hits together and to get runs in bunches, even without Cuddyer in the lineup. Last year, I felt that any time the Twins fell behind by a couple, the game was virtually over.
