Time to worry about Neshek?

A quick look at Pat Neshek over the past couple of years:

2006: 32 appearances, 2 blown saves
2007: 74 appearances, 3 blown saves
2008: 6 appearances, 2 blown saves

Granted, this is a small sample size, but Neshek's already been bombed twice this year, and both times the Twins were ahead when he came in and behind when he came out.  This just didn't happen that often in 2006 and 2007.  Should we Twins fans be starting to worry about Neshek?  Or is it just too early?

Count me as worried

The two blown saves were not just a little blown. They were destroyed. Every pitch was either a ball or right down the middle. Everything was high. He had decent movement but no velocity.

I wouldn’t be as worried if he had finished last year strong. But he was awful after August 1. And he doesn’t look a whole lot better so far this year. I could be wrong. It could just be dead arm. But I’m worried it’s more than that.

Both of his BS...

....were in pretty cold weather. I’ll get worried if he starts pitching poorly in baseball weather.

It's early.

I’m willing to chalk it up to the usual ups-and-downs of a season, although yeah…it’s a little bizarre. I’m just so used to seeing Neshek go in and dominate hitters.

Still…we’re only a couple weeks in. Some distressing results so far and some erratic pitching, but he’ll pull it together.

Hye, hold on.....

He had a great spring, my friends. Cold weather? Good scouting reports? Luck of the Batter?

+1 cold weather

He’s been fine in the dome, that’s a lot of movement in that motion and it has to suffer when it’s going in the cold.

I did drop him from a fantasy team of mine though, but I’m the only Twins fan in my league and his stats are going to look bloated until June, I’ll get him back in May when he’s better.

Guerrier, I’m frustrated with. This guy can be fantastic when the Twins are behind or when they have a big lead. He folds when in a pressure situation. When is Korecky going to be ready?

Baseball is a game of adjustments

Batters have made the adjustment. Question is does Pat have it in him to make an adjustment of his own?

I think he’ll be fine in the end.

Pen gets crushed

The supposed strength of the Twins just took to the toilet for the third time on this road trip.

I’d be more concerned about Sheky if it weren’t for the fact that Crain and Guerrier were both shelled as well.

I’ll tell you what, Detroit and Chicago can hit the ball. Think of having to pitch the 8th and 9th against Detroit and facing Granderson, Polanco, Sheffield, Ordonez, Cabrera, Guillen and if anybody gets on, Rodriguez and Renteria.

There’s a lot of good pitches needed to navigate that labyrinth, and the Twins couldn’t get it done. But, for Detroit, they will have to do it every night, given that their pitching is lousy.

Hear, hear.

Heh, um, Granderson hasn’t played against us yet this year if I’m not mistaken.

The point is...

...if this is how good they are now, think of how good they will be when they get Granderson back.
