Tolbers might be Tolbert.

But there’s no way for us to tell. We don’t have the technology.

gotta love gameday...

Ponson is shown in his Twins uniform, pitching to twins players…

Sure

But why rest Gomez again, did he tweak something last night? Or is Gardenhire giving playing him based on some sort of bizarro-world splits where he rests against bad pitchers?

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Didnt

gomez hurt his calf last night?

by guinness junky on Apr 26, 2008 8:01 PM EDT up reply actions

Aha, ok

that answers it. Thanks.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Gomez

injured his calf last night and is listed as day-to-day

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Saltalamaccia

Is back, this is his first start of the year.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 7:24 PM EDT reply actions

Ponson's 2008 AAA stats

5 Games, 4 starts, 23.1 IP, 3.63 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 3 HR, 9 BB, 12 K, 25 H

18-pitch inning for Ponson

but that GIDP by Mauer is a site I’m tired of seeing.

Gameday listed Harris as having a hit on the 4th pitch of his PA, and the 6th pitch. Intriguing…

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:13 PM EDT reply actions

Now pitch 4 is listed as a ball

but Kinsler’s at-bat has him making outs on the first and third pitches of. What’s up with Gameday this year?

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Baker looked ok in the 1st

Some of those knee-high pitches weren’t called strikes, but they could have been. It’d be good to see him stay sharp.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:21 PM EDT reply actions

My God

if the offense doesnt score any runs vs. Ponson I am going to scream!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:25 PM EDT reply actions

Ponson's thrown 30 pitches thru 2 innings.

And he hasn’t re-conditioned himself enough to make me think he can continue those pitch counts and not get tired early. Eventually you’d think the Twins could just start sitting on fastballs. It’ll be interesting if he’s still hitting 92-94 by the fourth.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Ponson

was clearly trying to stay away from Kubel there in the second…unless he just doesn’t have any control, which I could believe. Four fastballs away, Kubel fouled off two of them. All of them could have been balls.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:26 PM EDT reply actions

Nice inning by Baker!

3 up, 3 down. Only 10 pitches.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:29 PM EDT reply actions

All Twins

should raise their BA at least 10 points vs. Ponson!!! LETS GO TWINS!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:31 PM EDT reply actions

1B by Young

Five straight fastballs away from Ponson.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:32 PM EDT reply actions

single by Lamb

that is nice to see….I really hope that Lamb will come out of his slump and hit above the Mendoza line! He is no Punto and he will do better….

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:33 PM EDT reply actions

I was really hoping

he could turn out to be a decent 7/8 hitter…not necessarily a big run producer, but someone who wouldn’t get bowled over three times a night. He’s been rolling over on a lot of pitches so far this year, but it’s early. I hope he puts it together.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

1B by Lamb!

1st and 2nd, no outs, let’s go offense.

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:35 PM EDT up reply actions

2B BY MONROE!!!!!!

Young comes into score, Lamb to third. Twins lead, 1-0.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

OMG

Ponson actually gets a strikeout??? Tolbert turned into a defensive player there….emergency hack at that third pitch and he missed it….not a good AB at all by Tolbert.

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:36 PM EDT reply actions

man

Ponson has two Ks now!!! come on Tolbert and Harris you must do better….just sit on the fastball and drive it….you will see it at least three times in a 5 pitch AB, sit on it….come on

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:38 PM EDT reply actions

Ouch, Sidney...

passed ball. Twins up, 2-0.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:39 PM EDT reply actions

Damn

Mauer lines out to 3rd to end the Twins half of the inning.

Twins up halfway through 3, 2-0.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:40 PM EDT reply actions

we have to score more

if what we saw last night is going to come back…..our offense cannot go to sleep. Baker is good through two but so was Blackburn.

GO Twins!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:41 PM EDT reply actions

yeah I know

but so far our offense hasnt done anything much vs. Ponson…..and here comes Texas….DAMN

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions

Blackburn did get stomped...

...but he was also unlucky. Seven straight hits is unbelieveable.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I am having

memories of last night right now! come on BAKER!!! it would help if we had speedy Gomez in center to catch that…..

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:44 PM EDT reply actions

seriously...

...i think i spoke too soon a second ago…

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

well that helped

nice K by Baker…..now he needs something on the ground to SS to twist a DP….except this is Hamilton one of league leaders….

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions

and there it is

a looping double down the LF line….2 runs score.

tied!

as Chitown announcers would say: a little shank double; if he is going to hit a double he should hit a double like our guys do.” ....sry but that makes me laugh each time I hear that, because Chitown hits a lot of loop doubles

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:49 PM EDT reply actions

Baker's working away to Milton Bradley...

...another K would be nice here with Kinsler on 3rd.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 8:51 PM EDT reply actions

K

KKKKK

5 Ks for Baker….very nice!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:51 PM EDT reply actions

DAMN

Murphy has hurt us so much in this series….2 run single!

Texas: 4
MN: 2

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:54 PM EDT reply actions

6 K

for Baker…but Texas takes a 4-2 lead

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 8:57 PM EDT reply actions

Ponson punches out Young

and in doing so wastes Kubel’s single.

At least it was another long inning for Ponson. I don’t mind getting into that Ranger bullpen.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

except

remember that that Ranger bullpen did shut us down last night!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

17 pitches for Ponson in the 4th

He’s mixing in more than fastball/changeup now, too:

Fastballs-13
Changeups-1
Curveballs-3

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Gomez

would probably be 2-2 already with two bunt singles…I have to believe that is what he would do vs the chunck of lard on the mound….maybe that is the only thing to do now for this Twins offense besides Morneau….maybe we should just start laying down bunts see if anything can happen.

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 9:07 PM EDT reply actions

The offense is doing ok tonight so far.

The pitching staff just has to keep them in it from here on out. Five hits, a walk and a pair of runs aren’t bad through four innings. And as Ponson wears out (66 so far), and as we get into their ‘pen, we should be able to put something more on the board.

Should be.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:10 PM EDT up reply actions

1-2-3 fourth for Baker.

Back on track. He was all over the place against Catalanotto, but no harm done.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

Short inning for Sid.

He came right after Lamb, Monroe and Tolbert—right around the strike zone with all of them this time. Tolbert hacked at the first pitch, but at least Lamb and Monroe made him throw a strike before getting themselves out.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:18 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

Those first two from Baker to Kinsler looked like strikes to me.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Then again

knees and belly button can be considered low and high in today’s strike zones.

Killer.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:20 PM EDT up reply actions

Mauer in the 1st

Was that Mauer’s 5th GIDP in only the 21st game? THAT is not a stat which makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.

by montanatwinsfan on Apr 26, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions

Yikes

1B by Bradley…bases juiced.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:27 PM EDT reply actions

Murphy grounds into FC

No double play, Michael Young scores from third. 5-2, Rangers.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:32 PM EDT reply actions

all right,

im probably being both redundant and unfair, but yet another GIDP for Mauer is very frustrating.

by montanatwinsfan on Apr 26, 2008 9:34 PM EDT reply actions

Divine intervention

allows Guerrier to retire Catalanotto. I think Frankie C. is playing for the Twins tonight.

5-2 Texas through five.

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:39 PM EDT reply actions

And now it's time for bed.

It’s after 2:30am and the wife is wondering why I’m still up watching baseball.

She may never understand me.

Or, conversely, I have a problem.

Goodnight, TT. GO TWINS, I want a comeback to read about in the morning!

by Jesse on Apr 26, 2008 9:40 PM EDT reply actions

Goodnight

and Pip pip….I hope you WILL read about that comeback

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 9:45 PM EDT up reply actions

looks like Jesse will get his wish

He will definitely have comeback to read about, now hopefully he’ll have a win to read about too.

Tie game into bottom of 6th?

I wonder if we’ll get a reprise of ‘closer or non-closer’ from last night?

by dwintheiser on Apr 26, 2008 10:00 PM EDT reply actions

maybe

who knows….we almost had another Texas lead but luckily Cuddy made a nice catch

say…have you seen on the headline by Kelly Theiser?

Gimpy Gomez sits out…..come on Creamcakes he is not “gimpy”

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 10:06 PM EDT reply actions

Out of curiosity...

...did you know that Gomez has never played more than 42 games in the big leagues before being sidelined by an injury?

Small sample size, yeah, but ‘gimpy’ does kinda fit.

by dwintheiser on Apr 26, 2008 10:13 PM EDT up reply actions

not to mention,

he did limp off of the field last night didn’t he? That, by definition, is gimpy.

by montanatwinsfan on Apr 26, 2008 10:17 PM EDT up reply actions

gimpy

is more for an old man who has shrapnel in his leg….not for a young man who just aggravated a cramp by kicking himself in the calf.

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

So...

...you gonna tell us what ‘Creamcakes’ is for?

by dwintheiser on Apr 26, 2008 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Tolbert gets a hit

Now let’s see Morneau and Cuddy get outta the no hits club too.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

by halfchest on Apr 26, 2008 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

Some highlights

Crain’s 2 K’s to end the inning

Delmon Young has taken good at bats tonight and gotten hits to either field

Mauer’s bunt was terrific. He needs to give lessons to Gomez.

Aaaaand this one is over

Cuddyer hits a three-run homer for his first of the year.

Twins lead 12-5.

by dwintheiser on Apr 26, 2008 11:01 PM EDT reply actions

Cuddy's

first hit is extremely nice…..a homer!!!

Tolbert is the only one with an 0 across the board! get back to Tolbert and let him get a hit!!

Twins tie number of runs scored in a game and also have exceeded the number of hits they have in a game

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

Korecky

Let him go in and hopefully mop up the last two innings.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

by halfchest on Apr 26, 2008 11:06 PM EDT reply actions

Delmon

today has had really good ABs….here is a summary:

1st AB: 5 pitches Result: single
2nd AB: 6 pitches Result: strikeout
3rd AB: 5 pitches Result: walk
4th AB: 3 pitches Result: 2 RBI single
5th AB: 5 pitches Result: groundout

Total # of pitches seen: 24 pitches in 5 AB? not bad

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

Tolbert

is guaranteed another AB so hopefully he will get a hit and all the starters will have hits!!!

by BCTwins on Apr 26, 2008 11:09 PM EDT reply actions

Dangit

You beat me to it. I was going to note that the Twins have scored 10 unanswered runs since Jesse left.

Maybe his wife knows more than we think she does…

going to say the same thing too….Jesse must keep this team beneath the rock until he leaves…haha…jk
