I love

the new Gameday over at MLB.com. Lots of nice additions if anyone hasn't browsed through it yet.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 1:39 PM EDT   0 recs

aaaagh

What just happened to Slowey? Anyone watching or listening? I've just got Gameday up and it doesn't say anything more detailed than "Brian Bass replaces Kevin Slowey."

It was an injury

but it hasn't been elaborated on.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:07 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Gameday

reported Slowey left due to an injured arm.

Or, basically, still no new information. I'm not listening to the game though, I just keep checking back. Has anyone heard anything?

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

C'mon Bass....

...keep it at 3-0 here...

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:10 PM EDT   0 recs

Bass set

Kendrick up nice with that slider. 3-0 isn't fun, but it could be worse.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Y'know...

for the Angels making such a big deal about adding another big bat into their lineup, it's pretty good. Hunter is another nice bat to go behind Vlad and Anderson, but there are some decent hitters there. It's a pretty decent mix of good hitters and runners with some power in the middle.

I'm let down now.

Damn you for failing, Jason Kubel.

Can our offense be this bad????

I thought it was supposed to be better this year.

I guess Delmon didn't see ball, hit ball

by caluofmn on Apr 3, 2008 2:26 PM EDT   0 recs

Delmon

did see the ball he hit the ball hard...Matthews had to find it in the lights and he still made the catch on his knees....

by 33MorneauMVP on Apr 3, 2008 2:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

That was a quick half inning.

Well done, offense.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:38 PM EDT   0 recs

Go-Go Gomez!

Infield single, then advances to second on a bad throw.

Sweet....

Go Joe!

bring the kid home!

by caluofmn on Apr 3, 2008 2:50 PM EDT   0 recs

Good heads up

running by Mauer, realizing he could take third on Cuddy's GO.

Slowey News

The Twins's website is currently reporting that Slowey's injury is a "strained bicep." That sounds pretty bad to me, though not awful. It seems to me like that COULD mean a 6 to 8 week absence. Of course, it could be just a quick DL stint. We'll see if Bass gets the one fill in start before they bring up liriano, if they'll have the off days to just skip the spot, or if they'll bring up Perkins for one or two starts before Liriano is ready to come and take the spot.

Either way, a longer audition now for Blackburn.

Oh, also, Morneau just did his job lifting a fly ball to the outfield to score Mauer. 3 - 2 now with Young up.

I think

Perkins will probably get the first opportunity, since the Twins want to wait with Liriano for now. But Humber could get a shot too I suppose.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 2:59 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Looks like

Kubel was tempted by that middle-in fastball.

At least we got two back...brand new game now. LET'S GO BULLPEN.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 3:01 PM EDT   0 recs

Looks like it

was a slider that hung right over the middle of the plate at the belt.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 3:06 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I still love Torii

and wish him every success in the baseball and personal worlds...

...just not when the Twins are involved.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 3:08 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

can we please trade Rincon for a bag of nuts...

and maybe a bat boy to be named later?

by caluofmn on Apr 3, 2008 3:10 PM EDT   0 recs

Oops

I guess Juan didn't give up the last 2 runs..., Sorry Juanny, go get them. heh

by caluofmn on Apr 3, 2008 3:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Just

Mauer just hit a sac fly with the bases loaded to bring the score back to 5 -3. Cuddyer will come up to face new pitcher Justin Spier with two outs and runners on first and second. It's time for the first big extra base hit of the year for the Twins. With Gomez on first, we'll surely score two with any double.

Jason Kubel Frees himself

First Twins HR of the season. Finally.

by Neil on Apr 3, 2008 3:46 PM EDT   0 recs

Kuuuuuuuuuuuuuubes!

How happy did it just make me that Jason Kubel hit the Twins first home run of the season! Twins now trail by only 1, 5 to 4.

Tom Gordon is telling me it was a huge upper deck shot.

I'm sure Monroe is a nice enough guy

but I hope this is the start of more starts for Kubel and more time on the bench for Monroe

BTW

The Royals just swept the Tigers. Who saw that one coming?

Everett

Will we see Tolbert pinch hitting for Everett? I hope so...

DAMN YOU CUDDYER!

Nothing like your #3 hitter going 0-5 - and 0-3 with runners in scoring position, ending two threats in the seventh and ninth inning - to make you feel like crap.

by Jon Marthaler on Apr 3, 2008 4:19 PM EDT   0 recs

It hurts a little

for a few reasons. One, Slowey went down. Two, I missed Kubel's home run. Three, Twins hitters did enough to keep it close the last half of the game, but were unable to come through in the end.

Bring on the Royals.

by Jesse on Apr 3, 2008 4:56 PM EDT   0 recs

Slowey's spot in the rotation

Barring a rainout in Chacago on Monday, the Twins won't need to use Slowey's spot in the rotation until Sunday, April 13th in Kansas City. Tuesday is a scheduled off day, and the Twins could just keep everyone else on a 5th-day schedule until then.

Hopefully, Liriano will be deemed ready in time for that game.

How did our 3,4, and 5 hitters do this series?

Maybe its the feeling after this last loss but it seems like they are going to have to be alot better if the Twins are going to compete.

The Tigers and the Indians have now lost a big bat each. Injuries can create a favorable situation for the Twins but they got to be ready and help themselves. They can't afford to lose too many games like the last 2.

by caluofmn on Apr 3, 2008 5:56 PM EDT   0 recs

Ok, so the recap says that the Angels have won 160 strait games when leading after 8?! Is that a typo? K-rod blew 6 saves last year, are you telling me that the Angels won all 6 of those games?
