Twins 4, White Sox 3
The game was at a reasonable time considering my six-hour time difference...and I didn't even see it. Which is probably why we won. And since when did I become so superstitious?
Checking the box scores and reading recaps is no way to live a life as a Twins blogger. But it will have to suffice for tonight. I'm more than happy to dish out the general specifics (oxymoron?), but I'm sure you can fill me in on the specific events.
Carlos Gomez had a huge game, going 3-for-4 and snagging his 11th base of the year. After reaching on a bunt, Justin Morneau busted out a double that plated the speedster from third base, giving the Twins the go-ahead run. From what I've read it looks like Gomez had tried earlier in the game to score from third on a mis-played ball, but was called out at the plate. I'm wondering how they were able to throw the ball fast enough to over-take him on the relay home.
Thursday is an off-day before heading into the weekend series versus the Tigers. I'll catch up with you sometime tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday everyone.

Gomez
Gomez stole third, and the ball got away from Crede. Gomez tried to take home on the misplay, and Gomez was barely thrown out at the plate, although he never touched the plate. It was a weird play.

Should have the replay…I thought I read he was actually safe…but also read Gardy was royally pissed for him stealing third with two outs and Mauer at the plate..

On the replay
It shows that the catcher had home plate blocked. Even if it was close, it was a bonehead move and he probably deserved the out. If you’re a believer in baseball karma, that is.

Ulger sent him
He didn’t run on his own. He was told to run. Don’t blame him, blame Ulger.

Really?
Gardy seems to have said that he didnt have a sign and that there is no way he has a green light there

He says he thought he saw a sign
And he made a mistake. But I was referring to the run home. The ball didn’t get that far away from Crede, and it’’s a short throw home. Ulger sent him there, and that was a mistake. So Go Go should have not been stealing there, but once he was in safely, he would have stayed at third if Ulger told him to.

Good to know.
I didn’t know Ullger sent him.
In that case, it’s still a bonehead move, it’s just now it’s by the guy being PAID to watch and assess that play. Gawd.

Go-go doesn't have a green light?
Doesn’t Gomez have a green light to steal as he wants? I can’t understand why Gardy would be pissed, especially with Mauer at the plate who hits the ball all over the place. As it turns out, stealing 3rd was a great idea. He probably would have scored with a slightly better jump—that would have been a free run. Once he feels a little less like a rookie, he won’t need to have Ulger tell him to go on plays like that; he’ll just take off.

with two outs and gomez on 2nd, he scores on any hit. stealing a base is just pointless

during
during the pregame show on the radio, they were interviewing Jerry White. He was saying that Gomez should be more aggressive stealing third more.
so, it all boils down it the saying ‘it is what it is’

Stealing Third Situationally
I can see it with one out, as a runner on third with less than two outs provides a great shot at a run, but Gomez has to learn that the green light does not apply when you’re on second with two outs – like Aaron said above, he scores on any hit out of the infield, so the only payoff is if Mauer hits an infield single.
Basically, Gomez needs to learn the old basebal maxim “Never make the first or last out at third base.”

The bunting.
Somebody needs to explain this to me. In the bottom of the seventh, Gomez reached first on a bunt single. Now, we know that Gomez is uber-speedy, and that Pierzynski can’t throw anybody out – and Ehren Wasserman, on the mound, is right-handed.
So why would Gardy waste the out instead of just having Gomez try to steal second, a move that would probably have upwards of a 90% chance of success?
It worked out in the end, thanks to Morneau’s double, but I just don’t understand this move at all.

I suppose
I suppose if you have Gomez steal, Harris has to take a pitch. If that pitch is a strike, and Gomez does not steal, then its less likely for Harris to get the sac bunt signal the next pitch
but getting into the head of Gardy is tricky, at best
