Shealy

didn't even break camp with the Royals. He's looking like a power-bat bust.

by Jesse on Apr 4, 2008 6:25 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He's not quite a bust yet

Him not making the team was just the numbers game and he had an option left. With 12 pitchers, that left only 4 bench spots and there wasn't room for Shealy. He'll make it to the majors this year for an extended period of time eventually.

I probably disagree with you.

Shealy's numbers were never really all that good

They just looked good because he was playing: a) in the PCL and b) in Colorado Springs.

Gomez

Gomez has hit safely in 5 straight games...and if Mauer can keep it up along with Gomez...Mauer will set a record for most RBI in April!!!

Only if they can keep it up!

If Morneau continues his 0-fers...

will he set a record too?

Coming into tonight's game Morneau is 0-12. If he keeps this up will he set a record in the Month of April too?

remember

that Morneau had a 0-18 streak in May of 2007 last year before powering out 2 homers in a game!!!!

Sorry

I'm sorry, but please don't defend Morneau. You lose all credibility with your name.

RBI single

in the third makes the point moot!

Looks like the Twins have found their bats tonight.

And Mauer gets an rbi pushing Gomez in after his steal o keep the possibility of an April RBI record alive!

Gomez

Gomez sure has been something so far. I'm still waiting to see what he'll be like long term, but wow, a couple more hits already and two more stolen bases. he sure can make things happen.

But that dog Craig Monroe is starting again. At least this time he's facing a lefty starter. He has the only two Twins strikeouts of the game as well, wouldn't you know.

But of course, Cuddy hurt his finger, so Kubel is in the game again. HE'S taken a walk and scored.

but

but that run came when Kubel subbed in for Cuddy when Cuddy was on third base.

Gordo

Just like Tom Gordon said, what an outing by Scott Baker. he leaves with a man on first after giving up 7 hits, no walks, striking out two, and allowing two runs to score in his first 6 and two thirds innings of the season.

I'm not sure who Tom Gordon is...

But the Twins' radio broadcasts are anchored by John Gordon and Dan Gladden.

you've done it twice now, maybe I'm not getting the sly reference to the old relief pitcher now with the Phillies?

Cuddy Hurt

With Cuddy dislocating/lacerating his finger, does Young move back to right and Kubel go to left? Who gets the first OF callup? All this of course depending on the length of Cuddyer's injury.

my guess

my guess, Cuddy goes on 15 day DL (sounds similar to Curtis Granderson's injury), Twins bring up Pridie. Young goes to right, Kubes/Monroe platoon LF

by DedicatedFollowerOfFashion on Apr 4, 2008 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not likely

I'm hoping they call up Knott, and that Kubel and Monroe platoon in right and Knott gets a shot at DH. No reason to move Young; he's learning his position.

Once they drop the extra pitcher, then they can bring up Pridie so that they have a complete set versus a right-handed pitcher, plus to give Gomez a game off once in awhile.

But, how they hit will be interesting. Will they throw Knott into the 3 hole, or let Kubel and Monroe hit there? Or will they put Delmon there and protect Morneau with Kubel and Monroe, and bat Knott further down the order?

That seems more likely.

Either way, Morneau and Monroe need to step up. Right now, they are the glaring weaknesses in the order, and without them, there will be nothing but futility for this line-up.

ooops

there goes the Royal's perfect season.

by montanatwinsfan on Apr 4, 2008 11:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think this could be a good thing. Now Delmon can hit third, and hopefully hit well enough to stay there. Plus we can give Monroe some steady ABs so we can see if he's going to be able to rebound from last year or not. My guess is not.

Span called up

According to LEN III's blog, it's going to be Span.

Good for Denard. I'm sure this isn't how he'd prefer to get called up, but I'm glad he's made it to The Show.

Now at the very least he won't be mentioned in the same breath as Ryan Mills and B.J. Garbe.
