Matt LeCroy just loves baseball
That's the only explanation for this: the former Twins slugger has caught on with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League. (Official team link here.)
The Atlantic League has been home to many former major leaguers - Rickey Henderson, Juan Gonzalez, and John Rocker, just to name a handful off the top of my head - and LeCroy's chosen to continue his career there rather than as a short-term backup in the minor leagues.
The former Twins catcher was in the A's camp this spring, but the team assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento a couple of weeks before the season started. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, LeCroy was to help catch there for a month or so, until another prospect was healthy - but he asked for his release, and found something more long-term.

Disappointing
If he was going to join an independent minor league, I was hoping he'd go for the American Association so I could see him at Canaries games.

Closer to home
I believe he still lives in Virginia, so he probably wanted to be less than a day's drive to his family.
