Garza to the DL
Looks like the Rays have sent Matt Garza to the DL with a nerve issue in his elbow. I don't know how serious this is but it sounds like it could be serious. Assuming Young can stay healthy this trade might really have gone the Twins way if Garza ends up with elbow issues. I guess there is no way of knowing if this was a precondition that the Twins could have known about but if it does turn out to be serious I'm sure the Twins will be grateful that it is not an issue they have to deal with.

Well
It's been said that Garza knew about this last year and decided to just "pitch through it."

Pre-existing
I wonder to what extent the Twins knew about this before the trade? Nerve problems are very difficult to fix.

Ug
Ug too bad, even though we dealt him away, I've still been hoping good things for Matt Garza.
Seems to me like this will either be a small issue or a huge problem, not too much in between. I have no idea if that's a remotely medically accurate assumption though.
"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."
~ Earl Weaver
I'm bummed for two reasons
One, I wanted to see him pitch (maybe) at the Metrodome next week.. it was possible until now.
Second, I've gotten him filling in for an injured player on my fantasy team. D'oh.
since last year
The Star Tribune quotes Garza:
"It's something I've dealt with over time, but I was able to fight through it. (It started) more towards late last year. It got to the point where, I've got to get looked at and see what's going on. It was like somebody was pressing down on my arm." http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/17420409.html
I've been rooting for him too -- I thought the criticism of a guy who shot up from A ball so fast was really unfair, and I want teams to continue to covet your young pitchers -- we may want to trade another sometime.
I wonder what it means that we never heard anything about this till now. The Twins wouldn't have concealed medical information before a trade, so most likely everyone just thought it was minor till now.
