Doug Mathis: "That's not gone well"
It’s his first major league start, but will be a night to forget for him.
7-0 right now in the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded and one out.

one to forget
that is for sure…a 9-0 lead here for Perkins! He can just cruise now! Why cant the Twins do this every night?

Now
all the Twins do is play for themselves and pick up some stats…unless TX should mount a rally…doubt it

baseball
is a very funny game. Sometimes we cannot guy hits, now they come in bunches. If only we could face Mathis more often…

Span breaks his finger
Star-Tribune is reporting Denard is out for a month after breaking his finger getting hit by a pitch on a bunt attempt.
That’s what you call a tough break for a kid who has defied the skeptics and improved more than anyone in the Twins organization this year.

Too bad
Too bad, his exciting improvements in walk rate and strikeouts had me very interested on what he could provide the team as a backup or as a trade option.
It’s a long season, fortunately.

Glen perkins
Glen Perkins is officially making me question what I thought about him. I’d had him pegged as “decent but worse than a lot of our really good young arms” kind of like Phil Humber. I thought with his only somewhat above average strikeout ability, high walk rate, and hihg fly ball rate he’d be a 3-run home run machine.
I’s only a few starts, but he’s pitced very well so far.
honestly though, I’ve never looked closely into the numbers with him, and that remains true for now. I have no idea wht kind of BABIP he’s seeing right now, nor do I have any idea what such things as his FB% or HR/FB % look like at the moment.
Edit * – Just took a little look at Perkins. All his numbers look fine, with near league average in HR/FB, LD%, BABIP, etc. All sustainable.
The one EXTREMELY ugly harbinger of doom? The 93.2% LOB % he’s sitting on right now. I’m not saying he’s going to start sucking, but he simply is stranding way more runners right now than is remotely sustainable. A lot more of his hits are gonna tart coming around to score…
I’ll try and take a look if he sticks around a bit longer.
