3B Prospects Ripping Up Minor League Pitching
Brian Buscher (AAA) and Luke Hughes (AA) are ripping the socks off of AAA and AA pitching. Buscher has seen action with the Twins when Everett hit the DL with the shoulder injury. He played in only 3 games and hit .250 (2-8) with 1 2B and 1 RBI. Hughes briefly hit the DL but has not returned and is hitting just as well.
MINOR LEAGUE STATS:
BUSCHER:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
35 125 15 39 6 0 6 20 13 17 1 1 .392 .504 .312
HUGHES:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS OBP SLG AVG
35 146 32 52 7 3 10 21 16 30 4 0 .417 .651 .356
If Buscher keeps on hitting well, I think he deserves a callup. He is mashing AAA pitching and while he may not be our everyday 3B of the future, I could stand him at 3B next season. Hughes is our 3B of the future, especially if he keeps on hitting like that. Hughes is making Morneau look like a fool with power. Hughes MUST cut down on his strikeouts...I am not going to go so far as to say that he is swing happy since he has drawn 16 walks but he must cut down on the strikeouts.
While for right now I dont mind Howie Clark, especially since he got the game-winning hit in the 12th inning yesterday but I would rather have Buscher. Buscher brings so much more to the table than Clark does. If Buscher should get called up this season, I say that Hughes should be promoted to AAA. Hughes could become another corner-infielder brought up through our system with 30 HR power, first since Justin Morneau.

I'm as excited about Hughes too,
But, let’s not anoint him 3B yet. Apparently, he’s in search of a position to play defensively. He’s been playing some OF and 2B, along with 3B. No one has really said that he is good defensively. Same with Buscher.
What we’ve found out with a guy like Harris is that you have to be damn special offensively if you are sub-par on defense. Someone has to actually scout Hughes on defense before we go off the deep-end with him.
