That's an interesting lineup choice...
...batting Lamb second. Personally I’d be batting him eighth and go Harris, Mauer, Cuddyer, Morneau, Kubel, Young, Monroe, Lamb, Everett. But that’s just me. Lamb hasn’t done much this season to prove to me he’s a good table-setter.

I'm excited to watch Baker pitch tonight.
Hopefully that muscle strain won’t inhibit his performace.

Baker
Would like to see Baker establish himself as the ace tonight by pitching his team into first place. Go Twins!

Holy hell a baserunner!
Renteria’s the first, the pitchers owned the first two innings.

Baker looks good
3 scoreless innings for Baker, now lets get some runs before Verlander gets to comfortable.

He has been good.
But pounding Granderson with five consecutive fastballs makes me nervous, he strikes me as a hitter who’d love nothing more than to get around on a fastball. But maybe they were setting him up, I’m sure by the fourth and fifth pitch he might have been thinking there’s no way they’ll feed me another fastball here.

Baker Injured
Baker tweaked the groin again and is out of the game. Brian Bass is coming in for the 4th inning.

Delmon goes down swinging
But it was a good PA, fouling off a number of 2-strike pitches. That’s good work.

Baker DL
I have a feeling Baker is gonna need a stint on the DL after this. I would guess Slowey gets the call as he was likely in line to take over Liriano’s spot next week. So now who takes Liriano’s spot next week when the Twins need a 5th starter?

Perkins/Humber/Duensing?
If Baker does indeed go to the DL…

Mulvey?
What about Kevin Mulvey? He seems to have been doing well in Rochester. My guess is Perkins will be given the first opportunity.

Mulvey's done well too, yeah...
...he has to be considered as one prospective replacement too. But I agree that Perkins would probably get the first crack.

Bed time.
This Detroit lineup makes me nervous against Bass…although his stuff certainly isn’t any less intimidating that Livan’s and he did alright. Hopefully I can wake up tomorrow and see he pitched quite well after the 4th.

Bass
This will be a big appearance for Bass. If he can do well he would be giving himself a good opportunity at a permanent spot in the bullpen.

he has earned
his spot IMO…great outing for him

1-0 Twins
Twins get one, but thats a situation where the Twins need to get at least one more.

Neshek velocity
Has anyone else noticed that Neshek’s velocity is still down? I’m pretty sure it’s usually in the low to mid 90’s but tonight it was only in the mid to high 80’s, reaching 90 once.

can you
can you trust the gun tonight? Jesse Crain threw a 99 mph fastball according to FSN

Gameday
I’m just going by what I see on Gameday. I dont recall seeing Crain throw a 99 mph FB on GD so I’m going to trust it in this instance.
OTC is right though. The results speak for themselves. Obviously something is up.

Dome gun
Against Ordonez, Crain threw a 92 mph slider. Ordonez was late on it. He turned back to the ump and asked what the pitch was and had a look of surprise when the ump told him. The next pitch was a fastball, and it registered on the dome gun at 99. Most scouts say the Dome gun is pretty accurate. For reference, the fastest pitch Nathan threw was 93.

All we can really trust
are results.
I’d like to see them, but it seems that Neshek’s stats are down this year. Whether that is a velocity issue or something else is open to debate, but he is definitely not untouchable.
I think the 8th inning role is now open for competition, with Crain and Rincon the competing candidates along with Neshek.
