Tonight
hopefully the Twins batters will come alive again and start hitting…last night was unexceptable….
Hernandez must keep the ball low in the zone and induce alot of groundball outs…MUST!!

We'll
We’ll see if this game happens. It’s raining pretty hard outside my window as I type this.
"You can't sit on a lead and run a few plays into the line and just kill the clock. You've got to throw the ball over the damn plate and give the other man his chance. That's why baseball is the greatest game of them all."

Punto
If anybody else in the lineup bunts and then gets thrown out because they don’t run to first, they get immediately benched. I propose that the same standard be applied to Nick Punto.
He’s lucky Gomez saved his bacon with a two-out triple.
by Jon Marthaler on May 7, 2008 10:51 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
agreed
Punto stands around arguing (I think) instead of running it out and then arguing if he really wanted to….get benched Punto!!!

Just when you get mad...
Punto goes and totally redeems himself.
Forget we said anything, Nicky. Three-run doubles are a good way of making up for screwing up.

Gomez just a single away from the cycle
The Twins haven’t had a cycle since August 1, 1986, when Puckett did it…

why
not have another CF do it? two of the best CF in the game and in Twins history with cycles…that would be fun!!!

Uh, Bert...
Maybe this is why you don’t always leave the starter out there to finish the game.
Hernandez loses the shutout on a Dye home run, then gives up three consecutive sharp singles.
by Jon Marthaler on May 8, 2008 12:24 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
uh?
I believe he finished the game with only that one run given up. Doesnt really justify your point.
by .mnqwerd on May 8, 2008 1:09 AM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Yes, he did.
But if the game was close, like 5-0 going into the ninth, the Sox would have had the tying run at the plate, all because the Twins left Livan out there to “finish the game.”
In a 13-0 game, it doesn’t matter at all. But Bert makes no distinction between a 13-0 lead and a 3-0 lead in calling for the starter to be left in.
by Jon Marthaler on May 8, 2008 1:24 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
irrelevant
It doesnt matter what the score was, you tried to knock Bert’s philosophy by using this game as an example. And according to this game Bert was right. Livan pitched out of it. Of course if it was 3-0 he probably would not have been out for the 9th. And if he was you cant really say the results would have been the same. Different mindframe for both the hitters and the pitcher.
