Thanks Jon
I was just popping on as I realized I’d forgotten.
I like Tolbert hitting second, if it isn’t going to be Mauer.

Let's go Slowey!
I’d love to see him come on and pitch six or seven quality innings this afternoon.

Afternoon games
MLB should make a rule that at least one team should have to play an afternoon game on national TV every weekday. Afternoon baseball’s just too much fun not to have this going at all times.

Gomez gets caught stealing.
For only the second time this year. I briefly thought that Pierzynski threw him out and the world was ending, but Toby Hall is catching today.
Looked like he might have been safe from the replay, but c’est la vie.

Nope, a straight throw to second.
Nice toss by Hall, who’s thrown out 35% of runners in his career (although last year he was a Pierzynski-like 3/29.)

First legit CS
It was his second CS officially, but the other one was on a pickoff – this is the first time a catcher has thrown him out.

Wow.
Who’d have picked Toby Hall to do that?
by Jon Marthaler on May 8, 2008 3:13 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I know
the only true legit catcher that can throw him out is probably on our team!!! also maybe Rodriguez but Gomez has success against him :)
Mauer is the only one that has a chance to throw him out consistently.

GREAT at-bat from Tolbert.
Battles back from 0-2, fouls a couple off, then reaches down and pokes a slider to left for the first run of the game.

2nd pitch to Dye
Ok, I am at work, so I can’t watch the game. Was the second pitch to Dye (before the F-ing homer) down the pipe? ESPN Gamecast seemed to think so and it was called a ball…Is the strike zone pretty tight, or is Gamecast way off?

Not sure
But I haven’t seen any evidence that either pitcher is getting squeezed, and neither Dick nor Bert has said anything about it.
The pitch that Uribe just hit out was a fastball down the middle and up in the zone… not a good pitch.

Who had Doug Eddings in the pool?
Cause Gardy is the heck out the game.
by Jon Marthaler on May 8, 2008 4:05 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Here’s the explanation: Guerrier, pitching to Konerko, threw a pitch that momentarily appeared to be ball four. But Konerko went around, and Eddings was slow in checking to first to verify the strike. Both runners moved up while Guerrier ended up running wildly around the infield trying to tag somebody, anybody, out.
Gardy came out to yell at Eddings, and was immediately thrown out.

Crazy Play
I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before—a double steal that happened bc the runners thought a checked swing was ball four.

That was a BS ejection
He hardly even argued or got in his face at all. I can’t recall a quicker ejection. If I’m the Twins I complain to the league office about it.

My guess...
Is that Eddings considered it arguing balls and strikes, which usually gets you thrown out right away.
Either that, or Gardy called him a couple of extremely choice names.

Expensive explatives
If Gardy called him those names (a la Bull Durham), it’ll cost him his lane fees for a month.

Hey, Joe...
There are times in life that you just need to stand still, such as when you’re on third base and the ball is hit on the ground.
Somebody call TK… we need a quick fundamentals review.

In his defense
He got in a run down long enough to allow Cuddyer to get into scoring position. So it’s the difference between two outs and a guy on second or two outs and a guy on third.

With runners in scoring position today:
Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer, and Craig Monroe (4-5-6 in the order) are 0-8.

Neshek just left the game.
With apparent tightness in his right forearm.
He left on a 1-1 count, so it must have hurt pretty badly. Elbow? Wrist? Ligament?

What is it with Twins traininers and buffet's?
It seems like a lot of our trainers don’t exactly practice what they preach on the dieting issue. Hey McWayne: Boof says hi.

I've always thought the same thing
He looks like he’s going to pass out by the time he gets to the mound…

Looks like Neshek is headed for the DL
I guess Korecky gets a reprise.

Not a good day for the Twins
This was a game they needed, and had a shot to win.
This falls mainly on the offense, who had chances in the middle of the order. Where was Morneau in this series?
But, WTF is up with Harris at 2B? Bottom of 8, Toby Hall hits a tailor-made DP ball to Tolbert at 3rd, who wings it to Harris. He doesn’t do the cross in front pivot, or the step back pivot. Instead, he decides to stride right into the baserunner and gets upended. He did not look like a 2B on that play and it cost the Twins two runs.
He looked like a wooden soldier getting mowed down… by Uribe. Uribe of all people. I saw a game this week in Toronto where Uribe was on third with nobody out and the infield back. There’s a slow ground ball to the SS, and Uribe freezes while Eckstein throws to first. OK, not a big deal, but between the pop-out and fly ball that ended the inning, the Sox lost 1-0. He’s not exactly a terror on the bases.
I watch a lot of games. I have never, ever seen a 2B try to turn a double-play by striding right into the runner.
And then Neshek goes down. This has a very ominous feel to it. Gomez hits for the cycle while they cruise, and the next game they play like pansies and Neshek is injured.
There’s no blessing in this.
