I can play this game.
I’ll go with multiple predictions, in order to increase the chances that I’ll be right.
1: Twins win, 6-5
2: Boof goes 6 innings, allows 4 runs, all coming on two home runs
3: Delmon Young hits his first bomb of the year
4: Lester goes 7 innings, allowing 3 runs; Twins mound a comeback against the Sox bullpen
5: Brendan Harris gets a 2-run double
If three or more of those come true, I’m buying myself a beer. If less than three come true, I get two.
My predictions, my rules.
Five predictions are more fun than one!
I’m in:
1. Twins lose 8-3.
2. Bonser gets a no-decision.
3. Gomez scores at least one run, makes at least one error.
4. cmath complains that people would rather talk about the latter than the former re: Gomez. :P
5. Kubel hits the ball hard in at least three plate appearances, but gets an 0-fer for his effort.
Why, no, I’m not a pessimist. Why do you ask?
Sorry, Jesse....
...I forget that being the local contrarian doesn’t mean I have to be the crazy old man with the shotgun yelling at the kids to stay off my lawn.
For what it’s worth, it would be nice to see a ninth-inning rally—maybe Gomez can get a walk-off?
Hmm...three out of five ain't bad...
2. Bonser no-decision (Crain gets win)
3. Gomez scores a run and makes an error
5. Kubel goes 0-for-4 (though I have to hope the two grounders were hard-hit)
We’ll have to wait and see on #4.
I just saw
Kelly Theiser’s report of how Punto’s trying to play his way into a better role. Punto’s been productive over his last five games, going 5-for-15 with two doubles, a triple, two walks and a strikeout. Of course those five games stretch all the way back to April 29, so it’s not like he’s being exposed everyday. So yeah, technically he’s been hot, but it’s been in a situational role.
2-0 Twins
Twins score on back-to-back PA’s—Morneau scores Harris on a ground out; Cuddyer scores Mauer on a single. Good start!
Dick
makes me so mad. “Gomez lines a basehit to right field something we havent seen much of.” I would like to remind Dick that Gomez is second on the Twins team in hits. 2 behind Mauer who has 36; Gomez has 34. Gomez has 122 AB; Mauer has 104 AB. Difference of 18 AB.
but
but how many of those hist have been to right field? Most of his hits have been infield choppers/bunt

I think Dick meant...
...that we haven’t seen a lot of line-drive Gomez hits; mostly bunts and infield singles.
Jinx!
Or opposite field hits
I think he meant opposite field hits. There was nothing malicious about the comment.
He said opposite field
Those with eyes to look have seen a lot of line drives to left. That hit was his first line drive to right.

Ug
Jesse’s score is lookin’ good, but backwards. Papelbon is coming to shut the door with the Twins down 6-5.

Single by Young...
...to put up a threat.
But I don’t get why they’re sacrificing with Tolbert to bring Everett up to try for the single.
(Not to mention that both Gordo and Dazzle were talking about Lamb just missing a defensive play at third in the top of the 9th…where exactly is Tolbert playing then?)
2nd
Harris went out injured.
I feel less than spectacular about Lamb getting a hit here…Nice work by Gomez to get on though…
Thanks GAC
Missed that while I was out getting ice cream.
Gomez puts the winning run in scoring position with a steal.
Single by Lamb wins it.
Walks
Ug, I though Harris was still in the game (I’ve haven’t been able to listen until late) and was going to say it would be a great time for that two run double Jesse asked for, but it’s Mike Lamb.
He can do it too!
