Slowey's WHIP

is damn near as good as Peavey’s and he’s pitching like it tonight.

If he hadn't come up to plate

I would have said the same thing to give him another inning. That coupled with the fact that our bullpen is well rested it was probably a good time to pull him, even if Crain did end up giving up a run.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Whew

Whew what a game! A strong start from Kevin Slowey and some fireworks at the end bring the Twins to 7 straight!

Macri sent packing

What does everyone think about Macri being sent down? Predictable? The right move?

Harris saved the day with that blast. Nice performance by Slowey; very solid!

Good recap, Jesse

Good game overall. I suspect Seth will be sending me a box of Mrs. Field’s Crow pies on Slowey. Umm crow, arlgharlgharlgh.

On Macri, he’ll be back up here as soon as they can find someone who needs a lefty bat off the bench to take Lamb. If they don’t find anybody in the next six to eight weeks, they’ll swallow hard and DFA Lamb to make room for Macri. Meantime, he can play everyday in Rochester, which is better for him than sitting on the bench most of the time.

Lamb

You really think they’ll DFA him? I know he’s basically roster dead weight right now, but if you think they’ll wait 8 weeks, they may as well keep him – that would be almost September, when Macri can join the roster anyway, and I’d assume that the Twins have the DL flexibility to shuffle Lamb out of the postseason roster (most teams do, I think). At that point, there’s no risk in bringing him to Spring Training next year to get a better idea if he’s really toast.

I’d say if they release Lamb, it should be either by early August or not at all.

as for those crow pies

I am not sure that I would get too cocky about a prediction (respectfully said) as you were the same person who, before the season began, predicted that Kubel would have a break out year this year and that Liriano would post some very good numbers through approximately 130+ innings with the big boys this year.

Probably misremembering here, but I believe you went as far as shouting down anyone who just didn’t believe that Kubel was going to be a force to be reckoned with on offense…

Ahem

Where’s the beef?

I didn’t shout anyone down. I merely offered a prediction on Kubel, albeit a bold one. To date it has not panned out. I haven’t given up on it yet. He’s starting to get hot and the season is not even half over.

And you certainly misunderstood my crow pie comment. I predicted that Slowey would not take the next step. Seth is Slowey’s most ardent supporter and predicted Slowey would become as valuable as Baker. I would be eating crow for making a wrong prediction.

Go ahead and call me on wrong predictions. At least I own them when I make them. Lots of bloggers in this area only recall the times they make correct predictions and conveniently ignore their wring predictions. Not anyone here, but on other blogs.

good point

I would be eating crow for making a wrong prediction.

Oops your right I did misunderstand your reference to eating crow. It was the Homer Simpson reference that made me smile and made me think that a Mrs. Fields crow pie might some kind of gourmet ice cream bar sandwiched between two delicious pieces of chocolate and dipped in a bottle of Glenlivet before being set in the freezer…......... : )

DFA

You’re probably right. Whether they DFA him in early or late August is the difference between the prorated portion of his contract during that time from a cost perspective. But the difference to the team can be making the playoffs or not.

I just hope they can trade him. Even if they keep him on the 40-man roster until the end of the year, they’re on the hook for 3.1 mil for next year.
