Perkins'
walka and hits/inning pitched! Now I know that’s likely to come down as he gets some more innings in, but… ...it is going to come down a little isn’t it?

did you see it?
Gordon and Gladden called it a web gem. Hopefully gameday will have the video.

C'mon Gomez!
Bunting on the FIRST pitch for an out. Leadoff hitters just dont do that kinda crap.

yeah, I saw it.
and like the Frenchman, commenting on how his King already ahs a Holy Grail… ...”it’s very nice”

good inning all around
woulda been a little better had Kubel or Young picked up an rbi, but oh well.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 8:29 PM EDT reply actions
yeah but
as good as our first inning was all around, the 2nd was just as bad.

Watching Cabrera's defense at first...
...makes me even more happy to have Morneau on our team.

Glad to hear, but it’s so weird. Seems like he is good for a couple starts, bad for a couple starts, good for a couple starts, etc.

I hear ya, I think the Twins are waiting two see if he can throw 3-4 Great Starts in a Row before Calling him Up. i hope they do and DFA Bonser.
I wouldnt mind seeing Liriano get called up, Bonser DFA’d and Perkins be put into the Long Relief Role.
I sure as hell hope they don't DFA Bonser
He has to be worth something in a trade for god’s sake!

Bonser in Long Relief
Boof seems pretty well suited to long relief from what I’ve seen. I don’t have the stats in front of me, but isn’t he a better option than Bass?
well he hasn't done well in "longer" relief roles so far
he was hit for 4 runs in 3 innings earlier this month. And hasn’t really done all that well yet as a reliever. But I do think he could be an effective long reliever.

I just turned the game on
Looks like Perkins is working the Tigers inside tonight
Perkins
Its a good move by perkins, He threw a Fast Ball a little High and outside to Marcus Thames in the second and it ended up in the Baggie. so.
arguing about a warning to both clubs
after Galarraga stupidly threw two pitches at Mauer.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:05 PM EDT up reply actions
They almost hit Mauer
and the umpire warned both sides. Gardy took offense to the warning being given and was tossed. Galaraga threw one BEHIND Mauer and the next one almost hit him too.
yeah
reviewing the videos of Mauer and Morneau’s rbis. Galarraga has been the victim of some poor defense this evening.

It's a good turn out tonight
A couple games I was the only one here for innings at a time!
its that way some nights
some nights Jesse is the only one commenting. Other nights its quiet until something exciting happens.

New ballpark
What do you guys think of the new open air ball park?
Looking forward to it, Ive got my Priority seating so Game 1, i will be right behind Home Plate, Cant Wait.
I think their should be a Retractable Roof because with how its been Lately, Snow in April isnt going to go over well.
I agree
The new ballpark should be great. There’ll be some difference for Twins fans because like you say April and October will be fairly cold and there won’t necessarily be a guaranteed game every time fans go to the ballpark (rain outs etc).
Its Nice to See
Twins Fans show up to the games, atleast they arent in Miami, where the Marlins are Hot and they still only draw like 30 people a game.
darnit young
galarraga has a pretty high pitch count already – it would be nice to knock him out in the 5th or the 6th, and put a little pressure on that Detroit bullpen to start the series off.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:25 PM EDT reply actions
yep
Perkins is looking pretty good tonight. I think. First of all I am not actually watching him, and second he has had some solid defense behind him.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:35 PM EDT reply actions
keep badmouthing him...
I’ll jump in too if it gets him a triple. : – )
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions
Rodriguez dropped the ball
But it may not have been close anyway
actually that is where Gomez makes up for the infuriating
lack of plate discipline: His speed.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:40 PM EDT reply actions
Casilla can't get him in
Grounds out with 1 out and Gomez on 3rd.
uffda
I didn’t see it but it looks like another bad play by the detroit defense even if they scored it a single for Mauer.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:44 PM EDT reply actions
hoping
gameday posts the video as it was a scoring play.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:49 PM EDT reply actions
How do you guys watch?
I’m using MLBTV right now.
how can that not be an error?
Thames clearly had the time, but couldn’t get the ball out of his glove like he should have!
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 9:52 PM EDT up reply actions
I had Extra Innings last year
But I was too much of a cheap skate this year.
I think MLB.tv Does the standard Television Broadcast, Believe you me, FSN North HD isnt really anything to call Home about, it isnt the Best HD, but you can tell its HD
The best I can handle is the 400K feed
It is ok. Not exactly HD though :)
I just listen on the radio
because most games I have on the radio and I do stuff rather than watch it.
So I guess Tony O and I are on different existential planes :)

That was a catch
This is the Exact Reason why their needs to be Instant Replay…..Not trying to be anti twins, but that looks bright as day as a catch.

very clearly are saying no catch. ?!?

the Tigers
the Tigers seem like they are beating htemselves tonight
thats good news for the Twins!

Morneau has a point
It is only a 3 run lead.
I don't know why,
but I get the sense that the Detroit Tigers just don’t take the Twins seriously and suffer for that level of arrogance.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:08 PM EDT reply actions
montanatwinsfan
the Detroit Tigers take everybody seriously…this is the major leagues. After all, they are behind the Twins and why would they not be taking them seriously? Tigers are just suffering from multiple injuries to some of their best stars…Guillen has problems, Cabrera has problems…. do NOT take the Tigers too lightly they are surging from the bad start. Tigers will contend in the AL central and will give the Twins their work in this series.
well, maybe
but they have won 18 of their last 20, and they do have a solid lineup.

I think they would be two or three games better than they are now
if Verlander this season was performing like the Verlander of 2007.

our bullpen is just darn shakey at best this season.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:19 PM EDT up reply actions
our bullpen
has been phenomenal this June. They have been amazing at holding leads. Please give credit where credit is due.
this
is the thing when you start saying things like these… you start saying that the Tigs are done and then what happens? They start scoring runs… NEVER count out a team no matter how bad they may LOOK!
Dear 33MorneauMVP,
please check back in after you have grown some pubic hair. Until then, cut out the electronic shouting, and the juvenile comments.

I am
just getting sick and tired of “critics” on these blogs who say oh, the Padres, Nationals, Tigers, Brewers suck…. they are Major league teams after all. Twins are on a roll and I hope that continues but NEVER EVER count out a Major League Team. I play Highschool ball and I know that I should never count out a team no matter how bad they may look or how small they are… know why? You then start taking it easy and then you get your A@@ kicked
ok
I learned my lesson. You play high school ball. I will NEVER EVER count out a Major League Team.
Uh, how about the Seattle Mariners. Can I count out the Seattle Mariners at 31-50, or did you mean NEVER EVER ?
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions
I am
just saying that you should never count out teams… who knows? when the Twins play the Mariners, the Mariners could win the series even sweep us… it is possible, this is baseball. and Remember in 2006 when the Twins were 15 games out and everybody on here was looking towards 2007? They ended up winning the Division and going to the playoffs…which they lost due to bad playing by Torii Hunter and a bad career ending performance by Brad Radke. Its hard to believe that we are in our 2nd season with Bradke!!! wow.
Worst F^$!ing call of the night!!!!
Why the hell was Perkins pulled? Sorry but that walk was not reason to pull the trigger. We lost the game right there.
A game the Twins should have won and needed to win after the crap the Tigers pulled throwing at Mauer.
I sure hope the Twins show some …. and beat Detroit in the next two.
Where’s the killer instinct boys? Maybe it’s still staring at the pitch from home plate?
that
a way Matty. Gardy says that Guerrier deserves to go to the all star game…I agree, he has really turned it around. Matty!!
Agreed
i think Guerrier is really the guy who has proved that has what it takes to take over the Setup Role that Pat Neshek had before his Injury.
I think
that at the trade Deadline we should trade the following:
Livan Hernanez – call up Liriano
Dennys Reyes – Call up Mariano Gomez
Mike Lamb – call up Matt Macri
That is if we dont get any Major League ready players…we could also release Punto and Everett with Tolbert and Cuddyer coming off the DL.
I think
we should DFA Cuddyer and put Span in left and put Young in right.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:35 PM EDT up reply actions
because
we have Span now, and Young would play better defense in right, of course.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:38 PM EDT up reply actions
do you
really think that Span is a Major Leaguer? Oh…maybe we should have signed Tyner to a three year deal. Honestly.
well..
when you start saying that Span is better than Cuddy I really think that we should have kept Tyner and not traded for Delmon. Can you see this outfield? Span, Gomez and Tyner….oh fearsome. I like this outfield much better: Delmon, Carlos, and Cuddyer… with Kubel and Span as reserve outfielders. Span is good when you play him in a max of 20 some games.
and as
Tony_O said… we have signed Cuddy to a 3 year deal this season. Smith is not going to eat a three year contract for a AAAA player who seems to do well only as a fill-in. Put Span in there everyday and I dont see him producing.
Cuddyer is reliable…of course he goes through his streaks of 0-15 and such but he is a vet.
oh sure, Cuddyer is good and all
but it took him a long time to finally break through and be a relaible vet. He got married in the off-season, he’s injured, he’s clearly washed up. He has lost the eye of the tiger…
Now Span, he has a lot of upside.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions
and there
Cuddyer would have known how that ball would have ricocheted…Span did not and what happens? RBI TRIPLE!
Cuddyer
could’ve caught that ball with his teeth. But he would probably have had to use his dentures.
C’mon – he’s old. He’s done. It’s time to let Span get some experience and play through his mistakes.

wow
when I was thinking about getting to the Tiger’s soft bullpen I never dreamed it would include a pitcher with a 15.43 era.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:33 PM EDT reply actions
then again
that 15.43 era just forced Mauer into a double play.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:33 PM EDT reply actions
ouch.
I guess that means extra baseball for us.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:46 PM EDT reply actions
this conversation
is obviously going nowhere… apparently you think that how bad a team may be on paper they must be that bad in games.
I guess
what I am saying is that I am just going to shut up here because apparently you think that any team that has a bad track record or a record of 41-40 or 31-50 cant win baseball games.
oh
well, I suppose if I think that, then I must at least think that they can win 41 or 31 games, huh?
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 10:55 PM EDT up reply actions
let me
just ask you a question… have you ever in your life played baseball or are you one of these “experts” of this great game of ours who has never played?
Let me simply say that at age 16,
I was pretty serious too. Not quite sure I was as invested in myself and my opinion as you seem to be at age 16, and I hope I had a bit more of a sense of humor, but I will accept your emails as a test for this Grasshopper.
Someday my children will be 16 and the sooner I start learning to use my wiser self, the better.
Thank you for the unintended lesson in humility this evening 33. I know I failed this evening, but I’ll learn.

Yes We did, Cleveland he was pretty good, They just Hardly used him because Cleveland always Relys on 3 pitchers.
hmmm...
did seem to be doing well, and had excellent numbers in his major league career…. ....BUT in only 46.2 innings.
And Boston waived him outright earlier this year, so there must be something going on. I’ll try his minor league stats over at rotoworld.

and
STRIKE THREE!!!!!!!!! I take back my words about wondering why they brought in Bass.. lets rally!
If Harris
gets on… I see Span bunting for a base hit but none the less moving Harris to second for Gomez and Casilla! First Harris MUST get on.
he picked up a save yesterday
but I think he looked pretty shaky while doing it.

how come everytime that Mauer comes up in these kinda situations, Mauer always seems to ground out.
I dont Know, Mauer seems like a Reliable Guy.. Oh well, Shit Happens, We will get them back tomorrrow night.
was it shit happening,
or was it the Twilight Zone jinxing of you posting that the Twins won it back in the 6th, and me posting that the Tigers seem arrogant?
Maybe THAT blew the game.

Can somebody tell me why Ulger pulled Perkins
This one is on Ulger. I guess I’m spoiled by how Gardy manages a bullpen.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
I don't know about that
Perkins had 91 pitches in and Crain has been pitching well lately – I too thought Perkins should finish the inning, but I don’t know you can just say Ulger outright screwed up with that move.
by montanatwinsfan on Jun 30, 2008 11:31 PM EDT up reply actions
That's all I meant
Let him finish the inning. Then go to the bullpen in the eighth. Perkins had given up one base runner since the third inning and he pulls him with 91 pitchers. Then he ends up needing to use five relievers to finish the job. Total mismanagement by Ulger.

Montana
I gotta say I’m a little dissapointed tonight. I was looking forward to 193 + comments about the game tonight. Come to find out most of them involved Montana getting pissed off at a kid who clearly loves the game and this team.
We all realize 33’s just a kid, but I respect him for putting his opinion out there and attempting to build honest discussion, even if it’s a little heavy-handed at times.
I usually enjoy reading your posts Montana, but tonight wasn’t one of your better nights.
What would my life be like without the '91 World Series?
That's three times...
...at least that we’ve let the Tigers escape, but as a couple of you have mentioned, Ulger wanted to show off his managing skill and now we have an L instead of a W.
