Sure was nice
having a lead off hitter that could take a walk for a day.
C’mon Slowey, go 8 IP.
Kubel
Isn’t it time to give him another shot versus a lefty? Idk, Kenny doesn’t exactly dominate left-handers if I remember right. Give us some thump man.
Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.

Gomez
hopefully he’ll come out pissed about sitting yesterday and do a little 3 for 5 action

Way to go!
Morneau starts something in the second with a no out single. Let’s go Monroe!
Twins Fix

Span stays = Monroe must go
When Cuddyer comes back, I hope they go with five outfielders for four spots in the line-up. That means Monroe must go.

Mariners released Sexon this morning...
...any interest in dropping Lamb to pick up Sexon for the bench? He’s raked versus LHP: .344/.423/.623.
well...
not at a salary of 15,000,000 this year. But I suppose the Mariners are on the hook for that ahyway.
by montanatwinsfan on Jul 10, 2008 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions
Doesn't Lamb offer a little more
at least in terms of defensive possibilities than Monroe at this point?
by montanatwinsfan on Jul 10, 2008 2:28 PM EDT up reply actions
Sure,
but he isn’t playing much anyway. We have plenty of versatility on the roster to cover third base. Down with Lamb and Monroe, up with Cuddyer and Sexon?
I’m actually just playing devil’s advocate here….it’d depend on what he needed to come here, and I’m not sure I’d want him even then.
I don't want him here.

I hate Gladden
He has his favorites. Everybody else he finds reasons to criticize. Punto makes an error and it’s a “nice play”. Gomez makes a nice catch, but he takes a bad route on it.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
Why is that?
Is it just simple ignorance? Or is it the old “tough love” bit, where you’re not as hard on guys like Punto because you really don’t expect more out of them? Where with Gomez, you know he’s talented and has more of offer, so you’re harder on him because you want him to be pushed.
Play by play guys are not supposed to be so biased
When guys he does not like make good plays, he acts like Hawk Harrelson describing the opposing team. It’s just really tough to tell what’s going on when he only talks about guys’ flaws when he hates them (Young/Gomez/etc.).
Meanwhile Punto makes two outs on the bases and an error with Gladden doing the play by play and he calls it like it was good hustle.
"You're thinking too much. Just have fun." -- Bennie "The Jet" Rodriguez in Sandlot
just one reason to dislike Gladden
I can forgive that, I can forgive him for being just barely smarter than a pet rock, I can forgive him for being such a vocal and unabashed alcoholic on the air,
BUT I cannot forgive the braintrust that decided he needed to do play by play from the 4th-6th innings and destry any interest I have in listening. He is dull and boring and…

but Dazzle is not so good at pbp
by DedicatedFollowerOfFashion on Jul 10, 2008 6:41 PM EDT up reply actions
I daresay
Dazzle is better at the play by play than Gordon.
At least from the last couple of years relying on their broadcasts, being a TC resident only for 2 years.
I don't think so
I would rather listen to Gordon than Dazzle. Albeit Gordan makes mistakes some times, but Gladden is simply boring to listen to.

I see your point.
But Gladden at least gives you all the necessary information. You know, score, outs, runners, balls strikes, etc. These are things that Gordon has forgotten should be priority. Just my opinion.

Never ever, ever...
this administration would construe this losing streak, not as a need to bring in some help, but as a sign that we aren’t qualified to make the playoffs even if we do make the playoffs so we might as well shed some salary…

Love/Hate
I feel kind of embarassed, but I’ve realized that I now hate two players on my favorite team. Gomez and Young suck. Why can’t they hear what I scream at my laptop?
Agree kind of...
They have an extreme amount of potential but I think they’d be much better off in AAA still figuring things out. It’s actually kind of a double standard because the organization basically told Casilla and Span that it wasn’t good enough and now look what they’re doing now that they’ve figured it out. Whereas the superstars in Young and Gomez are simply allowed to remain a black hole in the lineup.

WTF?
Steal second and take the bat out of Mauer’s hands with two outs in a tie game? Stupid stupid stupid.

Maybe Span was trying to stay out of the DP
and forgot how many outs there were

Casilla grounds out.
If I were Gardy and I hadn’t already pulled Gomez, Span’s ass would be on the bench right now. What a bonehead move.
19 baserunners and 6 runs
that’s not terrible but that’s not going to get it done either

WTF???
What are you people whining about? Span’s steal put two runners in scoring position had Mauer gotten the single. Besides, what about Span stealing takes the bat out of Mauer’s hands? For all we know it was a designed hit and run, just that Mauer didn’t get the pitch to hit. Joe’s not worried about doubling off Span at that point since there were 2 out already, and he’s free to go ahead and swing away. A single there and they’re up two.
After Span abandoned first base
They intentionally walked Mauer. Taking the bat out of his hands, literally.
I’m going out on a limb here and guessing that it was a hit & run attempt on a pitch that was outside the zone. Rookies don’t have a green light whenever they want. Not with the micromanager that is Gardenhire.
You never know...
...Span could have taken off on his own, trying to make something happen. Rookies also make silly mistakes.
Just a blast from Morneau and this game is probably over.

We're seriously going to have to consider bringing out Bass of Boof, aren't we?
Screwed, we are.

Or Dan Gladden. I'm sure he'd love to.
Isn’t he still on the retired reserve list?

Delmon
I know he had a hot June and stuff but when he’s bad he really sucks up the joint. Also he is a real rally killer with his squib hits and strikeouts.
