Let's be realistic
Livan Hernadez is not going anywhere. No matter how hard people pray to the Baseball Gods, Livan is going to be with the Twins for the rest of the year. Unless some team offers a super deal in trade. The Twins are not going to cut him and eat the rest of his salary, then have him picked up by a team like the Yankees or Detroit. Livan then will be helping those team beat the Twins while the Twins pay him. thats is NOT going to happen.
Micheal Cuddyer will not be traded. Cuddyer will not move to third base. Micheal Cuddyer is going to be the Twins RFer if and when he returns from the disabled list. The Twins have too much money invested in him switch positions. The Twins will not release him (again money) or trade him (he has been VERY loyal to the Twins novice Twins fan should know the Twins value loyality more than anything)
Because he is signed on for next year, Mike Lamb is going to be on our roster unless some team offers us something in return in a trade. Lamb could actually be a useful person, filling in at 1B when Justin needs a break (like he did on Thursday afternoon). yes, Lambs numbers are terrible, but he adds some depth in the infield. (Nick Punto cant play first, ya know). And Lambs numbers when runners are in scoring position do not look terrible (. 356/ .362/ .444/ .807 small sample size of 58 plate appeareance)
The only way Boof Bonsor leaves this team is via trade. He can not be snuck through the wire and be sent to AAA. Craig Breslow, same thing.
there are about 10 other things, but this post is getting way to long lol
Thats just some of the things I have seen around the 'Comments Section' of the Twins Blogosphere that I want to comment on. Thanke for listening

Buscher : Lamb :: Better : Expensive
I suspect (and hope) that when Tolbert comes off the DL, Lamb is released. I like the guy, I know he’s struggling, but his presence has also proved that we have the in house options to replace his “production.” Maybe he can latch on somewhere else to get his swing back in an environment with a little less pressure. I am always of the opinion that you shouldn’t keep a guy just because the team made a poor monetary decision.

but
but when was the last time the Twins outright cut a player with a year and a half left on his contract? I can’t remember.
I mean we can wish and hope for a 1000 things about this team, but history says the Twins will keep Lamb unless we can trade him
(btw, I would ike to get rid of Lamb)
I think Adam Everett is most likely to be cut when he returns from the DL. He is playing with a one year contract worth $2.8 mil. While it sucks to bite the bullet on that, I think the Twins have done fine without him

It seems
like the Twins really do have a lot of dead weight right now. And if not dead weight, some guys who aren’t being used to the best of their skill sets. I think the Twins can be a better team for the rest of the season if they can be forward enough and make appropriate decisions on a few of those guys, because there’s plenty of versatility and cheaper-yet-equal talent in some of our bench players and with guys in Rochester. Lamb, Everett, Boof, Livan, Craiggers—they all need role reassignment if not removal from the roster. I really think we’d be all the better for it.

My "let's be realistic"
I think we are in for a somewhat rude awakening as the season closes. While we have played well, and are in the hunt right now, I think that most of us feel that we are playing better than expected. Further, I think our pitching will deteriorate at the end of the season (a la Tigers in 2006). We have lots of young pitchers, and I just don’t think their arms will be the same as they approach 200 innings as they were at 75-100.
‘Dedicated’ I think you are right about what they won’t do. However, I HOPE that, in light of the tremendous youth, they do get rid of the dead weight, to allow the better, younger players chances to play. Still, I don’t think that we should expect a strong finish to the year.

It does seem unlikely that the Twins would cut Lamb consider he’s under contract for 2009. And honestly, there’s really no need to at this point. It’s an acceptable amount and I still think he can be a viable backup as noted earlier.
Craig Monroe, on the other hand, should be gone tomorrow. If we’re going to keep Span and Cuddyer it makes no sense to keep Monroe. He was awful last year with Detroit, he’s been bad this year, and his contract runs out at the end of this season. If we’re going to cut weight it should start with Monroe and Hernandez, who is also signed on a one year deal.
I should note, I don’t expect to get anything for either, but if we can all the better.

not so sure on one point anyway:
The Twins will not release him (again money) or trade him (he has been VERY loyal to the Twins novice Twins fan should know the Twins value loyality more than anything)
uuuuuuhhhhhh… ....tell that to Matt Lawton, or Bobby Kielty (well ok kielty probably isn’t the best example – but Matt Lawton was the leader of the Twins position players back when he was precipitously and unceremoniously traded).

Players dumped during the year since the start of 2006
The Twins have shown little loyalty to underperforming players int he last few years. Here’s a list of players who have been dumped during the year, either through DFA or trading for a bucket of balls.
- Tony Batista
- Juan Castro
- Kyle Lohse
- Sidney Ponson
- Ruben Sierra
- Jeff Cirillo
- Ramon Ortiz
- Juan Rincon
If that trend continues, here are the players who will not be on the playoff roster at the end of August:
- Livan Hernandez
- Mike Lamb
- Adam Everett
- Craig Monroe
You have to earn playing time in this organization. These guys have not done that. Those who have trade value will be traded, more to dump salary than to acquire talent. Others will simply be DFAed. That’s the way of it. If I had to guess, I would say Hernendez will get some takers. The others will see the waiver wire first. The timing depends on the following players being ready:
- Liriano (soon and very soon)
- Cuddyer (two weeks)
- Tolbert (one month)
Winning comes first. If they have to eat their mistakes and cut their losses in order to win, they will. That is the most realistic view from where I sit.
