Thank you, Sidney Ponson...

...for once again proving that a win-loss record is meaningless.

A 1.58 WHIP, along with a 5-1 record and a 3.96 ERA?

Remember those “How do you spell relief” commercials for…what, Tums? T-U-M-S. How do you spell lucky? P-O-N-S-O-N.

Lets Go Twinkies

Dont Expect the Chubby Aruban himself Sidney Ponson to Last longer than 3 innings Because, A the Twins will Massacre him and B, its Hotter than Hell in NY, he will sweat himself to death.

by Tony_O on Jul 21, 2008 6:11 PM EDT reply actions

I hope you're right...

Sid’s two starts vs the Twins this season:

April 26, in Texas: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 K, 1 BB, 93 pitches
May 21, in Minnesota: 9 IP, 1 R, 5 K, 1 BB, 110 pitches

I’d like to think that maybe we could handle him a bit better now, after seeing him twice.

Ponson

I saw him at Yankees stadium against the Rays. He was pretty damn good. I also know that he’s done pretty damn well against the Twins this year. Here’s hoping that trend doesn’t continue.

this year?

how about career wise? Ponson has always done well vs. the Twins

yankee broadcast

said El Sid said he is 10-2 against the Twins… is that true?

by caluofmn on Jul 21, 2008 7:14 PM EDT reply actions

it is

with something like a 2.56 ERA against us

by BCTwins on Jul 21, 2008 7:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Scary

But we managed a pair of baserunners in the first inning. I’m choosing to view that as a positive sign.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:16 PM EDT up reply actions

oh

Abreu the face lover is up!!!

by BCTwins on Jul 21, 2008 7:20 PM EDT reply actions

got a base hit that wasnt off of Blackburn’s face!

by BCTwins on Jul 21, 2008 7:21 PM EDT up reply actions

face lover?

what’s that one all about?

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

dont you remember

Abreu hitting a comebacker at Blackburn that struck the side of his face? It was the last game the Yanks played at the Dome

by BCTwins on Jul 21, 2008 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh yeah!

I didn’t remember that it was Abreu.

I’m now mentally giving Abreu the finger as well.

Seriously...

...Rodriguez is really good. Really, really good.

I enjoy greatness in baseball. I just wish it wasn’t happening against us.

base hit by Buscher!

you know, although it would be nice to have a real threat of power there at third base, I dont mind Buscher. He is doing his job

by BCTwins on Jul 21, 2008 7:28 PM EDT reply actions

Base hit!

Twins got a little something going here…

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:29 PM EDT reply actions

Suck.

Way to not come through, Joe Mauer.

I shake my head, sir.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:38 PM EDT reply actions

Ok Blackburn...

...time to lock it down, right here.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:47 PM EDT reply actions

Oh man.

Yanks have bases full now with one out. The Twins tallied two in that situation…we need the Yanks to get zero.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:50 PM EDT reply actions

3-0 to Damon

with the bases full.

Throw a strike Blackburn.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:52 PM EDT reply actions

Wow.

Where’s the strike zone at tonight, exactly?

Because there’s zero consistency right now.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions

Mauer dropped the out at home

hard throw but he would have been out

by caluofmn on Jul 21, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Joe wasn't on the plate,

there wouldn’t have been a force. I’m not sure Joe would have had time to apply a tag.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:56 PM EDT up reply actions

Casilla tries to tag the runner,

misses him, goes home and the throw sucked. Ball gets by Mauer, Yanks score and lead 3-2.

Bases still loaded, one out.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:55 PM EDT reply actions

Shit.

Jeter, you suck.

4-2, Yankees.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

Man, Nick is getting rocked right here.

And he’s not getting any luck, either. Bad decision by Casilla, a ball off a glove…and he’s done for the night.

Blackburn goes one and a third. Ish.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:02 PM EDT reply actions

Sorry.

An inning and TWO thirds.

C’mon Boof, we need five innings.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:04 PM EDT up reply actions

I Think

That Blackburn is honestly More of the Long Relief Role, Call up Liriano, Send Blackburn to the Long Relief…Where he was Last season when he came up in September.

by Tony_O on Jul 21, 2008 8:04 PM EDT reply actions

Seriously?

Blackburn’s been our second best starter this season.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:05 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously

Baker is a Better Starter than Blackburn, im sorry im not sold on Blackburn in the Rotation, Yet, Maybe sometime down the line, 15 Runs in his last 6 starts.

by Tony_O on Jul 21, 2008 8:08 PM EDT up reply actions

Ok, but six of them were tonight.

His last three starts: 20.2 innings, 5 runs (4 earned).

Blackburn has done nothing but prove himself to be a valuable piece of our rotation this season. Maybe he’ll do something in the future to prove otherwise, but there’s no reason to jump the gun and put him in the ‘pen just because we think he’ll let up eventually. Especially when someone like Hernandez is still in the rotation, who’s season hasn’t been nearly as good as Nick’s.

Everyone’s going to have a bad night, tonight Nick had one…and some bad luck, too.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:14 PM EDT up reply actions

I hope the Twins don't just give it up tonight

but they don’t look too good now that they are up again

by caluofmn on Jul 21, 2008 8:08 PM EDT reply actions

More bad luck.

Cabrera gets a bounce off of Bonser’s glove and Buscher can’t make the play.

This has the makings of an ugly, ugly game.

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:14 PM EDT reply actions

Try to pick off Cabrera...

...ball gets by Morneau, error charged to Bonser.

Cabrera to second.

To quote Charlie Brown: AAARRGGGHHHH!!!!!

by Jesse on Jul 21, 2008 8:15 PM EDT up reply actions

This game is getting extremely Pathetic,

expect another 18-2 type win for the Yankees.

by Tony_O on Jul 21, 2008 8:15 PM EDT reply actions

I wish

that Cabrera would have tried to run on Gomez there…just to have a little excitement here, because I’m pretty sure Gomez would have wiped Melky out with ease.

Le Sigh.

Big single there, Harris advances to second.

Although to listen to Gladden, you’d think it was a foul ball.

C’mon Gladden, get it up a little bit. Pop some viagra, whatever…just don’t make it so clinical. I feel like I’m listening to a play-by-play of a physical.

Eww

This game has been just plain ugly, that’s all I have to say.

I read somewhere that someone said we would win one for sure, one would be a close battle to the end, and one we would get blown out.

Hopefully, this is the one that we got blown out and we can take the next two.

Although I was pretty sure this would be the one we won for sure. :-\

We played with fudge in our pants...

...at Yankee Stadium…again.

The Twins at Fenway and Yankee just seem to run around frantically and do nothing productive. It’s irritating as all get out. They seem to play in the fear mode instead of the we’re going whip you mode.
