We're going to activate Adam Everett.
Ron Gardenhire, following Tuesday's game, when asked how the team was going to deal with Alexi Casilla being out of the lineup short-term. Earlier in the day, the Twins had been ready to cut Everett, not return him to the major-league squad.

The Twins placed second baseman Alexi Casilla on the disabled list tonight after he was diagnosed with a strained ligament in one of his thumbs.
To replace him on the roster they activated Adam Everett from the DL.
Yes, there were reports earlier that the Twins had designated Everett for assignment. They actually gave him a contemplative outright assignment form, and he had three days to decide whether to accept it.
Tonight, they called to tell him they needed him back.
But the bad news is Casilla could be lost for the season, depending on the severity of the ligament damage. He will be re-examined on Wednesday.

Twins' hands
Cuddyer, Tolbert, Casilla. All ligaments in their hands? Or just breaking parts of their hands?

I agree 100%. Macri can offer a lot more than Everett offensivley.

It''s a logica, but oddly timed, move
Little short on middle infielders if they take Macri. Maybe those swings in the minors introduced Adam to a swing he never had. This is the move to make, although its puzzling why they just didn’t wait for Casilla’s MRI before announcing their initial decision on Everett. They had until midnight Tuesday.
Killer injury. 36-26 with Casilla in there since mid-May? Takes a wheel off the bases.
Thumbs don’t heal quickly. Blood circulation is very poor in that part of the hand, so he’s going to need all 15 days for certain. Maybe he’s back for the Oakland series in August if there’s any luck involved. Those six games in August with Seattle and KC are looking quite appealing.

Correct me if I'm wrong...
Hasn’t Macri played a bit of second at Rochester?
I thought I remembered hearing that.

The injury
is a) a ligament tear b) a tendon tear or c) a sprain or strain. Diffferent reports are calling the injury different things. Reading the most recent entry, it seems that it is a tear of either a tendon or ligament and it is doubtful that Casilla will be back. A really tough injury.

The Twins placed second baseman Alexi Casilla on the disabled list tonight after he was diagnosed with a torn tendon in his right thumb....
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said it’s a similar injury to the one infielder Matt Tolbert sustained in May. Tolbert had surgery and has yet to return.

wow this really hurts
I just don’t see the Twins playing as well w/ Everett in the lineup. I wonder how long until the Twins will be forced to have a Punto / Harris combo up the middle?

This is bad
I wish they’d give Randy Ruiz a shot though.

Ruiz is a 3rd Baseman/1st Baseman/DH, He would be great to call up after they get rid of Lamb Chop.

This really sucks, hopefully when he meets with doctors today they tell him he can play in a few weeks and deal with it after the season. Surgery will almost certainly mean to more Casilla in 2008.

upset
This is not good. Maybe in the last day before the deadline the can swing something for Brian Roberts.

Joe Christensen
has already reported that Roberts is not an option. The Orioles have apparently told teams that he is not available. Maybe they can get Grudzielanek from the Royals though.

I’m Against the Grain Here, Im willing to Give Everett a Second Chance, and if that does pan out, get rid of him.
