The Pennant Race Can Be a Stressful Time
But as young Billy Haywood reminds us “Just have Fun”
That’s right folks, I have gone to the DVD rack and pulled Little Big League off the shelf for a little Minnesota Magic via Hollywood. Oh sure the Twins miss the playoffs in the end because of Jr Griffey (oh gawd he plays for the Bitch Sox now) but as they point out it was one hell of a year.
Most people called this year a rebuilding year and some people here thought the Twins would finish around .500 but look at the year we are getting to enjoy. Heck the so called experts had the Twins finishing no better than 3rd place. No matter what, this has been yet another year where it has been great to be a Twins fan. Trust me I live surrounded by Giants fans and they always wonder how the Twins do it. The Twins are 1 game out 1st place and have a real chance to get into the playoffs (again). No matter what this year will be fun.
Of course when I got to the end of the film and saw Junior take that home run away and send the movie Twins home for the season I got nervous. I mean life couldn’t possibly imitate art? After all that was young Junior who was the face of MLB not the older Junior who has no business roaming center for Chicago. Nah, it’s just a movie but just in case I’ll be putting that DVD back on the shelf and not making eye contact w/ it anytime soon. I mean sure have fun (thanks Billy) but how much more fun would it be to see the Twins in the playoffs one more time?
I think next time I’ll just watch Night Nurses from Jersey…

You know, you're right
It’s easy to get frustrated at this point in the season when something goes wrong—like almost getting stuck with Jarrod Washburn—yikes!
But this team has absolutely been a pleasant surprise—much better than I thought. I expected the young starters to solidify this year—I had a good feeling about that and it’s happened more or less as I thought. I just never thought they would be able to score enough to be this good. Some of that has been luck (their absurd line with RISP), but it’s all good and sets up a fun last few weeks.

I enjoy that movie
(hoping that the Twins pull off a pickoff play that involves the grounds crew)

Take Washburn out of Safeco--
—during his tenure as a Mariner and he has a sub-4 ERA. BA differential is more than 35 points.
He also pitches well in the Metrodome.

This season.
Has been amazing, I keep on thinking about how exciting it is that I have a reason to check the standings every night.. remember, we’re now only 2 1/2 out of the BoSox and (depending on the outcome) a game behind the white sox. To even be here is fantastic, and I couldn’t be more pleased the way it’s turning out. The playoffs scare me, they’ll set up expectations that will be hard to top, considering we’d face the Rays/Angels/Red Sox. Anything that happens from here will purely be satisfying. So, let’s go Twins, surprise, win the division, do what you’re doing!

In addition
I think this season gives all hope that the Twins will be a good team for more years to come. The starting pitching has performed well, next year I hope the pen will be better w/ the return of Pat and maybe a player brought in from another org. The offense has given us plenty of runs and I don’t think anyone is playing soooo far over their head that we shouldn’t expect similar results next year, and the year after that (maybe Span? I don’t know)
Yup this year has been great and I have reason to hope that it isn’t a fluke but just part of a trend of recent years of great Twins baseball
