Lets go Twins

Shut Em Down Frankie!

I'm looking for...

..a big, solid outing for Franchise and a good couple series here against the Mariners and A’s before we spend the next 14-games on the road.

Silva

As bad as he has been this year, you definitely don’t want to let him get into a groove. Jump on him early and often boys.

Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.

Things...

A) Dick is a terrible announcer. I’ve listened to it a lot, but it needs to stop. EVERY play is not the World Series Dick, the ball was ten yards foul.

B) Buscher is not a long term option at third. If his offense blew us away maybe, but he is WAY to slow and his defense has been terrible.

C) Liriano still can’t locate the fastball. I want him up here over what we have, but he’s lucky they chase, because he can’t do much with the fastball other than put it below the knees.

by Twins Territory on Aug 15, 2008 9:08 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No it's fair

With Lopez, after he got the swinging strike on the changeup to get it to 2-2, in the past he would have just rared back and blew him away. He can’t do that right now.

I agree..

I can’t wait to see if he gets that back next season. They say in the second year. What made me most mad is that he is ALWAYS looking for them to chase it instead of trying to spot it. With a 1-2 count to Beltre and two outs he shouldn’t try to make him chase three straight times. That’s what killed him and will likely allow him to go just six or less.

Also...

..I’d really like to see us look into Huff. He is having a great year and plays some defense at third. Buscher would be a pretty good bench option, but I don’t think he is long term. There have been so many plays that he has missed.

Hughes

That’s who I’m hoping for. His bat looks great, but we’ll find out about his defense in the fall league. There are some decent free agents that would be much better than the Bastista’s that we’ve been signing. If we’re willing to take on $13 million for Washburn maybe they’ll spend a little in ’09.

I guess

I just don’t see him in the rotation again with what we have. Maybe if they could make him a decent late inning guy. He can throw up to about 96 MPH so he has that going for him.

He basically is still learning how to be a reliever

he’s been a starter all his life and it’s probably hard change for him. He has the potential to be a rather dominant set-up man so like I said, we’ll see if he’s given the opportunity here. Obviously though he still has the ability to be a #3 type starter. Not going to happen here though.

Off-season...

I know we’re focused on the playoffs, and I’m not looking ahead to 2009 already, I think this team will be playing in October. But with the Twins seemingly willing to take on contracts, I can’t help but wonder what they might be willing to do with the left side of the infield or other positions this off-season.

Here is what I just wrote on a message board:

What really makes me wonder if that they haven’t been concerned at all about money after tellings teams (Seattle) that they’d take on Beltre’s $10+ million deal and Washburn’s $13+ million deal.

I think they will be willing to spend some money and need to focus on getting a TRUE shortstop or third basemen. Heck, maybe a second basemen. They could move Casilla to short and worry about 2B and 3B.

I think Luke Hughes could be a great power hitter at third, but maybe more so in 2010 than in 2009. There are some decent left infielders that we could get if we’re willing to spend some money (Chipper, Nomar, Furcal, Blake, Crede, Hudson, etc.).

Other than that, we do need to trade an OF or make a decision on how to rotate them.

Finally I’d like to get one more releif pitcher. I don’t think Guerrier is the type of setup guy

by Twins Territory on Aug 15, 2008 9:43 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The rest..

That last sentence got cut off:

Finally I’d like to get one more releif pitcher. I don’t think Guerrier is the type of setup guy we need (keep him by all means). I’d like to add someone and with Neshek back we could have a very solid ’pen.

by Twins Territory on Aug 15, 2008 9:44 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bullpen

The Twins have always built the bullpen from within, with the possible exception of stealing Nathan from the ignorant Giant organization. I don’t see them making a move to acquire any more arms during the off-season. Crain will be another year removed, Neshek we’ll be amping up and Guerrier can go back to duties in the 6th and 7th. We have some options too with Delaney making a statement, Korecky finally wearing out AAA and maybe Mijares taking the next step.

We have more options at 3rd base right now than SS

They might seek another stop gap at SS if anything. I’d like to see some of our starter depth dealt for an elite SS prospect. I’ve been tutting the Elvis Andrus horn a lot. He’s in the Texas organization who is still set at both middle infield positions and could be willing to deal.

Missing

If he’s been missing it’s been down in the zone, so obviously it’s much harder to do some serious damage.

Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.

Kubel

almost does it again. Dang!

Bummer

Kubel had a good beat on that one too.

Good to see him go the other way too

The biggest reason he’s hitting .270 and not .300 is that he’s been too pull happy. While I don’t think it’s necessary he go the other way as much as Mauer does, if he can remember that it’s okay once in awhile he’ll be that complete hitter we’ve all been waiting for.

Mariano Gomez

Certainly not the answer for the Twins pen. Gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in 1 and 2/3 tonight for the Wings. They’re getting pounded by Buffalo 12-2. No real good news for the Wings offensively. Manchado keeps hitting, too bad his arm isn’t working otherwise he might be with the Twins right now.

Twinkies vs Pale Hose

So different again offensively. Twins with 2 guys with more than 10 homeruns, White Sox have 10 guys! 10!

Can you imagine Dick and Bert screaming out, “You can put it on the board… Yes!!!” as Mauer, Morneau, Kubel and Young go back, to back, to back, to back? I can’t….

I meant 8 guys, 10 would be scary, though they’re not too far off come to think of it.

In AAA I mean

of course. Still don’t understand why he didn’t stick in that role, as he was much better in Rochester as a starter. He actually struggled quite a bit in the bullpen and it’s just been more of the same here in 2008.

Down with the Yankees!

KC beating New York behind Meche. Meche actually did pretty well against us before finally giving in during the later innings. Limited Yankees to 1 run over 6 with 8 K’s.

Don't care what anyone says

when the first seven guys in your lineup are Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Rodriguez, Giambi, Nady, Cano, you don’t get the right to complain about injuries.

8 shutout innings with 2 hits, 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Their pitching is going to have to carry them to the playoffs.
