Minnesota Twins Baseball is On the Air
I really enjoy hearing John Gordon start us all off on an optimistic, enthusiastic note.

I've been thinking a bit about Mauer and octopuses
Mark Grace’s comment yesterday about Mauer being able to hit an octopus got me thinking. I think Grace might have a point.
Most hitters, when facing an octopus-throwing pitcher, would focus too much on the tentacles and end up looking something like this:

However, with Mauer’s superior eyesight and calm demeanor, I’m pretty sure he would be able to keep his head cool and instead get a good read of the body of the octopus and only use its tentacles for gauging the spin. This would allow Joe to stay back on the octopus and remain in balance, even if it’s an off-speed octopus.
I also believe that Mauer would be a good marsupial-hitter, although I admit that this is purely speculation on my part.
Let's start with Punto for a change.
Seriously, 2nd again? With no Gomez so no 7-8-9 black hole run? Ron Gardenhire must LOATHE Brendan Harris.
Phoenix: You DID get what Grace was actually getting at, right? (Not that your genius is not inspired)
I hope I do
I just really, really like his choice of words.
By the way
This is my lucky day. ANOTHER day game with Mauer in the lineup AND NO GOMEZ!
Okay, so, Ryan Feierabend...
Southpaw, turns 23 in five days. Career MLB stats: 17 games, 11 starts, 66.1 IP, 73 H, 38 K, 30 BB
Looks like control can come and go and he’s hittable at this early point of his career, even though Baseball America rated him as the pitcher with best control in the Seattle system, so the Mariners like him.
Grace
for the record, he was saying mauer hits lefties and righties equally well. But I liked and continue to like your interpretation much better. Keep at it and 2 years from now the WORLD will know Mauer as Mr. Octopus.
The Octopus
Maybe Grace was referring to Antonio Alfonseca a.k.a. “El Pulpo”, “the octopus”, the six-fingered relief pitcher. I don’t think he’s in the league anymore, but I’m sure Mauer could hit him.
I LOVE Pulpo Tostadas...
…at Pancho Villa on Nicollet. Wednesday off, sit in the sun, eat some octopus, drink some beer…
Morneau is hitting himself out of the slump.
Now show us that grand slam, Mr. Young.
Or not
that thing wasn’t close and DY tried way to hard.

Ruiz is fun to watch.
He seriously makes me smile every time up. It’s weird, cause he’s 30, but I sense FAR more genuine wonder and enthusiasm from him than I do from NoGo.
It's been a long time coming for Ruiz.
There’s no sense of entitlement there, and at his age he knows what his career will amount to. No doubt he’s relishing every opportunity.
This lineup today
Actually provokes a bit of thump and fear. Throw Casilla in there and Punto down to #9 and I wouldn’t enjoy being on the mound.
Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.

Perkins
Looks like we got the pitch to contact Perkins again today. Anderson loves it of course but it leaves him susceptible to hard hit balls, as we’ve seen already. If he doesn’t mix in his curve he has little depth in his repertoire and wont get any strikeouts.

In other words
His fastball, slider and change all pretty much stay on the same plane. So he’ll do a pretty good job of working both sides of the zone, but he can’t really work up and down without the curve.

Ruiz not going to make demoting him easy
He’s now hitting .381. If he can hit a homerun or two before Casilla returns, he could stick. I’m pulling hard for the guy, he’s certainly earned it.

This is where it fell apart for Glen in his Seattle start when he had the 6 run lead. Hopefully he can shut these guys down this time.

And theres the two run homerun. Our pitchers have some kind of hex where they cant pitch beyond 6. Its getting more than a little annoying.

With the way the bullpen is pitching right now, if the starter can’t go at LEAST into the eighth inning – and with the young staff, that’s not happening real often – we’re going to have trouble winning more than about one out of every three games against decent teams.
