Game 125: Athletics @ Twins

Oakland Athletics at Minnesota Twins, Aug 19, 2008 8:10 PM EDT

Injury report, from LEN3: Delmon Young is limping around injured.  And Adam Everett is pretty much emergency-only, leaving the Twins with two guys on the bench: Mike Redmond and Mike Lamb.  Feel the speed!

Lets go Twins!

Slowey’s WHIP of 1.08 is very impressive. Only Roy Halladay and Justin Duchscherer have a lower WHIP, with Cliff Lee matching Slowey’s 1.08. Hopefully Slowey can continue that trend tonight. Go Twins!

Homeruns

and hopefully start cutting down on homers

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Walk king

This guys given up 23 walks in 29.1 innings. Wait make that 24. Let’s hope we can be patient against this guy.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Crappy

1st inning there. Every guy got ahead of the pitcher and had 3 ball counts but nothing came of it. Really disappointing. Then the homer in the 2nd. Let’s get it rolling now Twins

Gomez

Looks like one of the easier outs in the league right now

Cust

I love the guy, but boy is he not a good right fielder. Watching the game, I think a lot of right fielders could have gotten an out on Harris’s hit, and held Span to a single.

by FROZEN on Aug 19, 2008 8:57 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Cust has one position and thats DH

Great

I step away from my cpu for a minute and the Twins go up. I think I should walk away.

Punto

I know he gets a lot of flack here but the guy is a gamer. That was a great play.

Bullpen

If Slowey didn’t have a penchant for the long ball I would think with his good WHIP and K rate that maybe he should be pitching the 8th inning.

by JD34 on Aug 19, 2008 9:09 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Hard not to enjoy that third inning.

The Twins are slapping Gallagher all over the lot.

by Jon Marthaler on Aug 19, 2008 9:19 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Buscher

I like his bat but man his defense is horrendous.

White Sox Update

Seattle 12
Chicago 4

Through six innings. All four runs for the White Sox have come off dingers (Griffey has three of them.)

Sadly, people will sue over anything.

If I were a patron of that Hooters I might sue them for false advertising by showing girls with big racks and then hiring her.

10-2 now

I figure if we get it up to 15, the bullpen should be able to hold it.

Lol. Sad, but very true.

Casilla

is 2-3 with two singles and a strikeout thus far tonight with Beloit. Should return to Minnesota tomorrow and then head on the roadtrip.

10 K's and 6 IP

Very impressive. He is at just 92 pitches, they better let him crack the 100 pitch mark and go seven.

by Twins Territory on Aug 19, 2008 10:04 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Heck no. Let him go eight.

Any inning spent with the ball OUT of the bullpens’ hands is a very good thing.

its the bottom feeders day!

Those bottom feeders are reeking havoc. Morneau is also becoming red hot too!

Ruiz is having a good day
heck, everyone is having a good day

Kubel has got to be the most freaking unlucky hiiter in the world

Seriously. The guy pounds one to wall earlier, then hits that line drive with the bases loaded.

Boof warming up

Slowey needs to be out for the 7th

by .mnqwerd on Aug 19, 2008 10:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Bring on the Bass

And if he can’t hold this lead for at least 2 innings I say Gardy walks out there and let’s him know he’s been DFA’d on the loudspeaker.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

Pitch count

to bad his pitch count is not a little lower

by .mnqwerd on Aug 19, 2008 10:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and Slowey has a masterful performance tonight

exactly what the bullpen ordered:

7 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K

MASTERFUL performance!!!!!!!

by 33MorneauMVP on Aug 19, 2008 10:28 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Once again for Bass

Let him go out there and finish so we don’t waste any of the real bullpen

fantastic job for Slowey

  1. star

Casilla update

3 for 4 all singles for Beloit. It may not have looked like it tonight but dang do we need that guy back at 2B and the 2 slot.

Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

It may not have looked like it tonight?

what is wrong with singles and going 3-4?

Because our offense looked so good.

3 Stars, IMO...

1. Slowey
2. Buscher
3. Morneau

Bass is on to cough up the lead....

if he does or even gives up 5 runs I hope to see him on that plane, not to Anaheim, but back home where he belongs.

by 33MorneauMVP on Aug 19, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I just think that the As wont score any runs

here because they are so flustered and are swinging at bad pitches

by 33MorneauMVP on Aug 19, 2008 10:38 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and immediately he gets Bowen to bounce back to him

no runs (surprising!) one hit and two left on board.

by 33MorneauMVP on Aug 19, 2008 10:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Get Mauer out of there too

Maybe he can play tomorrow. I sure hope so cuz I’m gonna be there.

Kubs grounds into a DP!

Ruiz is up – I think Ruiz, Harris, and Gomez get honorable mention in the three star nominations

by 33MorneauMVP on Aug 19, 2008 10:50 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

and Bass comes out and preserves the bullpen

he is in to shut down the As or let them get a few runs

just got back from the sportsbar

w/ my A’s fan friends… yeah today has been freakin sweet!

and 3 quick outs.

and the Twins remain 1 game back of the ChiSox as the Sox win 5-0 over Seattle

I really thought that Seattle might have a shot tonight with King Felix throwing and Richard throwing for the Sox. However, it is not to be.

Sox and Sox

Too bad Baltimore couldn’t help us out and beat the Bo Sox either.

Ummm

Umm, what a game! THat was a malt cupper if I’ve ever seen one before…

fortunately ...

we didn’t need blinding speed off the bench tonight. :)

by BD57 on Aug 20, 2008 7:51 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Man...

What a great game by Slowey. For a guy who doesn’t overpower hitters, striking out 12 batters is pretty amazing.

Also, the Dick and Bert drinking game is on hiatus, after we added the stipulation of taking a shot everytime Bert says “good” when the correct grammatical usage is “well.” That was 8 shots last night including pregame. Work today is not fun at all.
