Bass Accepts Triple A Assignment
Courtesy of Lavelle E Neal III Over at the Star Tribune.
Nice to See Bass Accepted the Assignment, Maybe the Cliburn Brothers can work with him.
Righthander Brian Bass has accepted his assignment to Class AAA Rochester and will join the team either today to tomorrow.Bass, who was outrighted to Rochester on Wednesday, sounded as if he would take some time to check his options before accepting the move. I guess it didn’t take long for him to make up his mind.

I'm glad he accepted the assignment.
I think it’s his best chance to see the majors again, although I’ve been known to be full of shit from time to time. Hopefully he can work on his confidence a bit, maybe find a way to tweak a thing or two that can help him be more effective.

I'd campaign to have him go back to starting
Not sure if they could stretch him out yet this off-season, but I think Rochester still has a bullpen day scheduled into their rotation. Anyways, he was much better last year starting and struggled in the bullpen. It was no surprise to me he struggled in the Minnesota bullpen. As we saw too early on, some of his better outings were of the longer variety. After all, he does have at least 3 functional pitches. If all goes well, maybe he could find himself competing for a possible 5-spot in the rotation. That wouldn’t necessarily have to be with the Twins either.

Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.

would it be in the Twins interest then
next year to leave him in Rochester as a starter, and only if there is an injury bring him up to start?
Assuming he goes back to the success he had last time starting would he be good trade bait, perhaps in a package?

Yes
But he is eligible for the Rule 5 draft if they do not add him to the 40-man roster.

4th-5th starters
Aren’t the Twins flush with starters at AAA and elsewhere in the system that project as end of the rotation starters? Wouldn’t Bass just get lost in that mix?

Probably
It’s something for him to work towards. There’s hope though because who would have thought during spring training that Blackburn and Perkins would be anchors for the rotation?

Yes, we’ve got a number of different 4-5 starters in Humber, Mulvey, Swarzak, Mulvey in AAA. Bass may get a bit lost in the mix, which is why I probably would not put him on the 40-man. If he’s taken in Rule 5, so be it. If not, maybe he finds something as a starter in AAA.

Not all 4-5 starters
I disagree, i think Humber is a 3 if he overcomes his Tommy John surgery, and he has done well of late in AAA, And Mulvey also potentially is a 3, young yet. Ideally what i would like to see is the Twins trade who they think is there #5 , someone who other teams hope is a 2 or 3, and replace him with someone ready to start, ideally you can get more for a guy who has had a good year or 2 with potential , for a needed position elsewhere. Kinda like trading Garza for Young, if u could keep developing a top notch pitcher every yr or 2, then trade one of the established guys for another needed position would be ideal. And i will put in here, i would trade one of my starters and a top notch prospect for Jason Heyward of the Braves, he will be a great one, IMO. They need pitching and i think they would move on it.

#4-5 starters right now
Yes, some of the guys have potential to end up better than a #4 guy, but at this time, going into 2009 we can’t way Humber/Mulvey/Swarzak/Duensing are better than a #4…yet.
Agree, trade a guy if another team thinks they’re a piece of the puzzle. Use the depth to address other needs.
