Delmon
He had a couple of hits last night but he seemed aloof for the second game in a row. I was at the dome on Friday and he looked terrible, I imagine they weren’t too happy about the botched flyball last night. That pretty much broke up Slowey’s groove last night. I wonder sometimes if he’s on some kind of medication to “control” his anger. He was supposed to be this fiery guy coming out of the minors and most nights I watch him, he never gets excited and just seems to wander around on the field and at the plate.
Gardenhire's major league career: Banjo hitting, futility infielder who couldn't lick it.
Rick Anderson's major league career: Strikethrower who never made it happen with his sub 90's fastball.
Really gives a new definition to living vicariously through other people, don't it?
Kubel
And were not talking Jason Kubel “quiet perseverance” type either.

random question
Does anyone know where to find BABIP by hit type for individual players, ie BABIP for groundballs, for flyballs, and for line drives? I found those stats for minor leaguers at minorleaguesplits.com, but I can’t find it for major leaguers.
fangraphs?
I haven’t looked, but FanGraphs has a boatload of stats
maybe The Hardball Times has it too

this
is this what you are looking for?
http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=2&season=2008&month=0

BABIP by balltype
a couple places.
firstinning has batted ball charts for BABIP by zone, which is the same re: GB type and which also includes overall IFFB rates (as against IF/FB rates a la THT)..
baseball reference has ‘em by ball type. go to the player page. click splits and scroll down a ways. you have to click the year at the top of the splits page if you don’t want career numbers. broken down by GB/FB/LD, but I haven’t checked to see how close their % breakdowns are to THT/firstinning ball type numbers.
not really
I was really trying to find somwhere that broke a hitter’s BABIP down into 3 categories: BABIP on flyballs, BABIP on line drives, and BABIP on ground balls.
For instance: the bottom section of this page http://minorleaguesplits.com/cgi-bin/pl.cgi
That link didn't work
but if you search a player and look at the bottom section that’s what i’m looking for for MLBers.
Bummer
Diving grab by Sizemore…too bad that one couldn’t sneak by, that’d have been at least a triple for Span…
yeah
yeah was a super play

Seems to me
that his command of the fastball is pretty good.
8-pitch inning for Cisco
That’s a good way to get a groove going, I’m liking what I’m seeing for far!
Frankie
This is what has been rotting in triple a, Sadly enough it took them this long to recognize.
See, I like that fastball to get Guttierez
Low and away forces the easy grounder
for those watching...
Has Liriano thrown anything other than fastball/slider? Gameday hasn’t shown anything else, I’m not sure what other pitches he has.
Couple of changeups to Carrol here
for called strikes. And then the error.
Pretty good count, especially with that long inning. Hopefully he’ll be able to go six or seven today.

If he can keep it to a moderate 15 pitches per inning
over the next three, that’ll give him 98 on the night through six. That’d be enough for Gardy to pull him I’m sure.
Maybe he can get a couple of short innings and stretch himself to seven.
Yeah
He threw 102 in his last start at Rochester.

Redmond
did a good job there of making him throw some off-speed. It looked like he was trying to overthrow.
53 pitches through 3 innings.
That third inning was a long one after he lost control of that fastball.
Let’s hope that last strikeout pumps him back up a little bit.
Wow
we have nine at home vs. the Yankees, A’s and Seattle after that. But, we have a 14-game trip at the end of the month.

He's getting some results
from that changeup now.
Buscher
did a great job there at least.

Oh...
They better get Contreras back fast because Richard has not been very good.

Yeah
he needed that. I think he’s at 71 pitches now.

Ginter
only has 43 pitches with a 0-1 count to Morneau. We really need to start hitting better. Than again, this lineup isn’t the best we can do.
Hopefully we’ll work some fifth inning magic again. The fifth and sixth have been our innings.

Yeah, the offense is not in great order
the last couple of days.
Liriano walks Sizemore
Hopefully that was quasi on purpose to get around Cleveland’s best hitter and set up the force out/double play.
Would have gotten one if the runners weren’t going.

Liriano
Looks pretty good, having some control issues but thats a given being your first start in 2-3 months.
Yeah
I think one reason is that he’s so pumped. The control issues disappeared in AAA, but it’s expected in his first start back. Plus, I think the third one was kinda intentional.
by Twins Territory on Aug 3, 2008 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions
Then he takes strike three...
He’s hitting .435 in the last eight games though.

90 pitches
I really want him to at least start the seventh.
by Twins Territory on Aug 3, 2008 3:38 PM EDT up reply actions
I think so.
It’s too bad. Getting him to at least start the 7th would have given him a boost.
Still, 3 up 3 down in the sixth after trouble in the 3rd, 4th and 5th. You’ve got to feel good about his start, or at least the results.
Yeah
No runs in six innings is great no matter who you’re facing. Now we need to get him the win.

yeah
nothing really happened though
Olivo ejected, Ozzie was ejected later, and I think the Sox pitcher was tossed

HA!
Wicked. I wish I could see that…the “lowly” Royals revolting against the AL Central’s evil empire.
What's
going on right now? The bases are still loaded in the fifth.

I thought I saw...
..that Griffey left with hamstring cramps.

Liriano's first start:
6 IP, 3 H, 5 K, 3 BB, 0 R
He threw 96 pitches, but in the end 56 of them were for strikes…which isn’t as bad as it could have been. Just under 60%, so not good, but you could say he was effectively wild tonight.
Bunt hit for Denard Span!
Good way to start the inning, let’s get Liriano a little more support here.
C’mon Punto!
I wonder
if we’ll be able to trade Livan. I think the Rockies are interested and the Mets were said to be interested. Plus they put Maine on the DL today.
I can’t wait to harrass my co-workers tomorrow. We wear biz casual, but screw it… I’m wearing my Twins Jersey all day!
Take that White Sux.
What would my life be like without the '91 World Series?
So much for the Pudge trade...
Farnsworth has already allowed three runs and Tampa Bay has taken the lead.
Sweet
Go Rays. Knock the Tigers out of it.

That's too bad...
...because even though Pudge-to-the-Yankees just figures, it was one of those trades that works for both teams. The Tigers needed a bullpen arm, and now they can start their search for a young catcher.
But what kind of compensation would the Tigers have gotten for Pudge…compensation that the Yanks will now get when they don’t re-sign him?
That's the bottom of the eighth...
...one run for Cleveland, making it 5-2.
Let’s get back a run or two, offense!
There is the post juice Rincon we have known
Atta boy Juan
That was Span's
second homerun this week too.
